One clause in the bill is that the CMP will receive surplus 1911s.

Somewhere deep inside the CMP warehouses (think Raiders of the Lost Arc) is a genuine USGI 1911/1911A1 with MY name on it.

Somewhere in that bill is something to seriously screw us all.
Trojan Horse and all that.
You think JugEars would actually do something that benefits US firearms owners?

Hope you're willing to pay the prices.

For sure.
Might have to look for it later and see what all's in it.
That will help the CMP, and hopefully accelerate plans to build more marksmanship parks like they have in Talladega. The president of the CMP lives in Wyoming, so maybe that bodes well for one close...
I may be interested too. I'll have to look and see what they're going for. Good news though, maybe the dems don't wanna take all our guns.
Wheres the sarcasm button?

There were significant changes to the military pension system that will begin to take effect in 2018.
Also in the bill was a provision that allows base commanders to determine whether or not they would allow the troops on their base to arm themselves with their own weapons for defense.
Lots of details here:

I am glad the Paid Patriotism part is in there. I was pretty disgusted when I read the article a few months ago showing the NFL was paid millions to honor military members. I guess I'm naive but I thought is was a genuine gesture, wrong again. Sponsorship is one thing but....

Agreed. I am more annoyed with the Defense Department and services for paying that money than the NFL for asking for it but it's one more nail in the coffin for the NFL as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather watch tapes of old games than give the NFL a plugged nickel anymore.
Don't get too excited... all of the valuable pieces will go to auction and the rest will be a step above junk. I too hope that I can get something of historical value but am relatively confident that will never happen even with this bill being signed. Le sigh.

I agree about not getting too excited but not exactly for the same reasons as Jer. The main reason to not get too excited is that the bill merely authorizes the SecDef to transfer the 1911s to CMP, it doesn't mandate him to do so. It will take a long time for them to set up the process -- they'll have to train armorers, do quality checks, etc. Once they get it set up though, CMP will provide the best customer service around on these pieces.
I already have a couple DCM 1911s but I will be happy when this pipeline opens. Nothing like getting these pieces out of storage and into hands that appreciate them.
How'd you get the DCMs? Are any pic worthy?

Yes, both are but I don't have pics handy ATM. I bought them from prior owners. One was altered to National Match configuration albeit not by the US Army (slightly different parts but same overall configuration). The second one I bought from someone on the board -- 1943 Remington-Rand in excellent condition with correct leather holster. I plan on eventually putting it in a display case to go underneath my retirement flag, just never got around to it.
Sweet. If you find a pic I'd like to see them.
The bill only changes the definition of the type of firearms that the CMP may receive.. no where does it guarantee that they will ever actually get anything..
