Found these prints in the snow this morning within inches of the rear sliding door on the concrete stoop.
looks as if the critter was circling and sniffing at the glass, no nose prints due to the screen. I put my folding utility knife next to the clearest print for scale.
Are these coyote prints ?

Look too big. I'm guessing Labrador.
Could be. If you don't have small outdoor pets I wouldn't worry about it. Coyotes are small and skittish.

Pretty sure Ginsue doesn't stray that far north....[Coffee]
The first thing I thought of was someone's dog. If those are coyote tracks, and they're that close to your glass door, I'd say you've got some problems!

Yeah, I've got a 6 ft. privacy fence & locked gate on three sides and a 3 rail fence with rabbit wire from 6" underground up to the second rail approx 2ft. On the back side. So, not likely someone's dog.
Whatever it was, they were probably sniffing the drippings from the last steak I grilled a few weeks ago.

Uh-oh.
Coyotes can leap a 6' fence like it's not even there. We've had people in our neighborhood lose their small pets to a coyote, and we've all got 6' privacy fences. One of the reasons I've hesitated to get chickens is the sheer number of fox and coyotes around here.
I think it's more likely that a coyote is digging under a 6' fence than jumping over it, but I'm certainly no expert.

Halfway down the page, under "Interesting facts about coyotes." There is a disturbing video of a coyote taking a pet cat and leaping the six foot fence. Watch out for your kitty and your hen!

It's not their tracks i've seen. It's their horn rubbings on outbuildings and fence post.
Wow I didn't think they could get up fences THAT easy ! Damn.
I thought this video was funny. Crazy how still he stands and doesn't just run away.

Here is my favorite coyote video. This guy is beautiful. It also reinforces the info in The Grey's link where it says not to run from a coyote.

Gorgeous coat on that 'Yote.
You can tell from his posture that he was was not in an attack or defensive posture. Ears were up, tail up, standing upright and bouncing around.
He wanted just what he got.....playtime!

Its amazing how a large dog can take one down. I have a coworker who's wife called to tell him that there Dutch Shepherd was on there morning walk and two coyote's were fallowing them she said the dog gave a few warning runs toward the yote's and the next thing she said the dog went on a dead sprint hit the coyote in the neck and she said the coyote never made a sound it was just dead. Let me tell you this is a dog that is a sweet hart I would never expect it out of her but she didn't like what she saw and reacted.
Coyotes and Foxes can jump. 2 or 3 years ago I was sitting on my front porch watching a fox, beautiful by the way, in the neighbors front yard. He trotted around into another yard and hopped a 6 foot cedar fence like it was nothing. Never saw him again.

when they're acting strangely, be very cautious- they may be rabid. just a few years ago we had a bat tested that was dive bombing us late at night while we were tending to a horse... had it tested and it was rabid.
