Since CLEO won't sign off, why not shift it over to the state police? Louisiana is doing it for form 4's(suppressor, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle), but not Form 1's or full auto.

Because, in our state, the sheriff IS the CLEO. In other states it is different.

And for the other thing, it appears Louisiana CHP is state issued. Also not the case here.

I'd rather see NFA requirements just go away - for at least Form4 suppressors anyway.

Yep and from my understanding is why we have a State Patrol which handle mainly traffic rather than a state police.

Yes. From the way it was explained to me, after this massacre restrictions were given to state agencies such as national guard and restricted an ability for a State Police organization and gave law enforcement authority to County Sheriffs.

And it's been a while since this was explained to me so someone may correct me on this.

Sheriff is not the only CLEO who can sign, anyway - state police barracks captains, district attorneys, US attorneys, judges and a host of other officials can also sign for individual NFA forms.
