Toying with the idea to SBR my HK mp5 .22lr . What are your thoughts? My main concern is cost. Or just keep it as is and buy another gun?

Pros:
- get rid of the fake suppressor
- it's a SBR , come on

Cons:
- would cost more than the gun ($300)
- $200(stamp)+$150(cut/rethreading)+$50(adapter)+$?(engraving)

If it is something you will enjoy it is worth it, though I just did a 10/22 takedown into one so I might be biassed

I wouldn't, but that's just me, I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the idea that I need to get off my ass and SBR one of my AR lowers for future uses before 41p happens

I SBR'd my S&W 15-22, it's been a blast and gets shot a ton.

I have one I keep going back and forth on SBRing? I have a "real" MP5 SBR so not a high priority to do the 22. I think the only way I would is if I have a 22 suppressor to go with it (more cost) so until I get one I think I am going to leave it alone.

I'd do it if I were you. I sold my MP5 .22 long ago and regret not keeping it for this very reason.

NO is the answer. It's bad enough those 22's are slow movers, resale wise. Why dump more money in to a platform that's parts specific.
Want to SBR a 22. Do a Ruger Charger. OR.................. SBR an AR lower. That gives you multi calibers on one well supported platform.

I've thought about an SBR 22.. but then I think of the more fun I'll have with a real caliber in SBR.. which.. I'll be sending out 3 stamps this week.. :)

I didn't build mine to resell. SBR's of any make or model are slow movers resale wise.

I built mine to shoot and have fun with and it works great for that.

Yes this will be just a fun toy I plan to keep, not flip. It's a ton of fun already but why not make it better, shorter is better (that's what she said?!?!). Just wanted some other opinions on it since like I said it would cost so much more to SBR than the initial purchase price.

I say no. If I'm going to jump through the hoops, pay the money, do the work, and wait... It's going to be a serious tool when I'm done. Not a neat little toy.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

If you want a cool little toy, then by all means, go for it.

I think more than anything the fake can bugs me just to get the barrel length legal. But I do agree with you too... Damn

Monetarily it's not worth it. It is just a "toy". But if it makes you happy then go for it before 41p makes it a major PITA to get done. I have the same rifle and I've waffled back and forth over years about SBRing it. I agree the fake can is stupid.

I was addressing the fact those guns are slow movers. Not in a SBR config, just as they sit. That 22 is and always will be a 22.
The OP asked a question and for "opinions", I gave one.
He can do an AR lower with 22, 9mm , 300BLK and 7.62x39 uppers off one platform.
