http://www.coloradoan.com/story/news/2015/12/07/police-swat-respond-situation-near-fort-collins-kmart/76926656/
Woman with a felony warrant on stolen property valued at more than $2000 is apparently holding a gun to her head in the Fort Collins Kmart parking lot. Police have the area closed off. Still unclear to me how the whole thing got started; the earliest thing the article has is that the cops tried to stop her prior to the Kmart lot, and she crashed into one, or something. All very confused.
So far I'm not sympathetic.

Though it was some hipster outraged over his hair stylist out of their favorite hair gel .
Like Donkey pegs, Zero fucks given.
I can hear the swat comm's bacn n forth. SO we try talking her down, or collect overtime for her offing herself. You stupid bitch it's $2K's worth of goods. Go ahead and splatter your remaining brain matter over that interior. OR.... come out and we all go home [LOL] Well we go home, you go to county.
If someone wants to threaten to off herself over a felony, SWAT certainly shouldn't take any risks to save her. Notify the family that she holds all the cards and all further actions are up to her. Call her bluff and move on to something more important.
Thus ends my fantasy arm-chair quarterbacking of a situation with which I'm not familiar from the perspective of a profession which I've got zero experience. Just in case anyone wants to call me out on it...I know.

She shouldn't have been stealing shit, not sorry for her at all at the moment. All she has to do right now is to make a decision....I hope the Officers are safe and protect themselves.

Good thing you added a disclaimer, I'm sure there is an LEO SME around here somewhere that would have set you straight....

All done, put gas into her car, she gave up. Has additional warrants for parole violation and assault. Going to the hospital first before the slam.

Poor gun. What did it ever do to her?

No, i don't believe every situation when dealing with LE's a racial one. ;)
BUT if one is going there this should be in the L&P forum, yes?

I apologize as I wasn't inferring the stand-off in Ft Fun was racial. I just naturally think of that scene whenever someone takes their self as a hostage.
Cleavon Little was awesome in that movie. Shame he died so young.

Obama will be coming on live TV talking about a gun taking a hostage any minute now.
Probably looking for a LEO to shoot her. Give her a nice trial and after the jury decision they can lock her up in the rubber room.
Poor gun. What did it ever do to her?
I know right? They best keep an eye on that gun in case mental is contagious and it goes off and kills something.
There's no way she has a real gun. She's on parole it would be illegal for her to have and it's pink, so it didn't happen. If she did by chance have a real gun and shoots her self, where's the down side, did I miss something?

So what is the legal penalty for suicide? I think if you try it and fail, the state should execute you anyway! At least it would be in a safe manner.

Thank you Mr. Swift for your modest proposal. [Flower]

I'm just glad the SWAT team got a little practice in today. One day there could be a situation where they are really needed.

Am I the only one here who is shocked that there is actually a Kmart store still open and operating somewhere?

Then the family sues for not helping her deranged state of mind.
A similar standoff happened in Arvada many years ago and apparently when guy with gun to his head threatened to shoot himself one of the officers did call his bluff and said to just do it. The gentleman then took the advice and guidance from the officer and killed himself. The city paid out I believe but not exactly sure.
That was why I protected the officers from liability by having them notify the family ahead of time. I'm super sure that would work.

Once again the educated among us show their knowledge not only on guns BUT, actually read the article.
part of one "comment"
Also, this brings up the topic. How are those criminals getting access to GUNS???? With her obvious mental health issues and criminal background???? I'm not against law abiding citizen's having GUN'S. IF criminals have free access to guns this country is in HUGE TROUBLE!!!!!
It's a toy gun you fukin moron [facepalm]
She could have gotten a real gun. Its not like she is on The No-Fly List. [Sarcasm2]

OK, that was funny. A new article came out today talking about how it was an airsoft gun. In the comments, one man suggested she be on work release for 30 years to pay off the damage she did. A woman replied back, and I quote because it's pretty funny how hysterical she gets:
WORK RELEASE???!!! You CAN'T BE SERIOUS????? This woman has SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. She may have had thought's of committing suicide at the time, but, to do it so publicly????
This was a cry for help! Unfortunately, she'll never get that where she'll be (JAIL) for years!!!

To which someone else won the thread with their reply:
She went to Toys-R-Us. They don't do background checks there.

See post #27
Even worse was her next comment.. Like holding a toy gun or any gun to ones head is a "Stunt"
I'm sure that warped thought was going through her mind. A mentally ill person who was seriously considering suicide wouldn't have pulled this pathetic stunt.
Here's the Ivy League school "she" attends.

Hilarious. But the person that wrote the first comment is too stupid to understand it.
