external HD for xbox 1 - what to buy?

I have two kids who use the Xbox1 a fair amount. They have a number of games they play and want to get some new ones this Christmas. The Xbox 1 memory is maxed out I'm told. I'm going to help with an external hard drive. I just read the Seagates have a high failure rate, that was disappointing to find out.
Also what size is reasonable? 5TB? Should I go larger?

Any insight on what Brands and sizes would be appreciated.

I have a Western Digital My Passport X. 2 TB and USB 3.0. It's been working great for a year now and it's powered off the USB cable so there's no need to find another outlet. I've got a pretty good number of games installed now and I'm nowhere near filling it up.
