How does the saying go? Our jeep cherokee blew a motor not too long ago. Started driving the Grand Cherokee my brother gave me a couple years ago. Been fixing things it needs. Drove a couple hundred miles and all seems good but the brakes. Take it to my local mechanic for new breaks and a thermostat. Taking too long to warm up. Get a call yesterday the brakes work good but there is another problem. I'm thinking ok break cable doesn't work or something else small he wants to fix. Nope motor blew up while we warmed it up after fixing everything else. WHAT?? What are the fuckin odds? I drove down there just fine. Just went to the mountains four wheeling in snow last weekend. It just decides throw a rod sitting there. I couldn't even drive it home a couple of miles. He wants to buy it for 700 dollars. Lol. What?? He just put 500 into it lol.
Anyone here want a jeep that has 33 inch swampers, 6 inch total Rubicon express lift, 456 gears, arb lockers, Tompkin Machine steel bumpers, sway bar disconnect. Good starting point for a rock crawler.

Find a junkyard motor to put in it.

That sucks! Especially this close to the holidays. You're lucky it didn't crap out while you were in the mountains.

Do you trust that mechanic? If not, get a second opinion. How does the motor simply low up while you're warming it up? Wouldn't there be some indication things were going bad?

I second blacklabel's suggestion- find a junkyard or second-hand motor to put into it. There's a zillion JGCs in this state.

2500.00 to put a junk yard motor into it. That's the cheapest route. 3500.00 to rebuild existing block with a better warranty. I'm kind of over putting money into both these jeeps. Feels like I'm throwing good gun money out the window.

Seconded on if you trust that mechanic.

"Blew up" isn't a good description of engine failure... What exactly went wrong?

Throwing a rod doesn't make sense if they can reuse the block, plus they usually knock first.

He referred to it as a rod. There is nothing sticking out of the block but sounds like its slapping around inside. It won't stay running.
Going to sell my 2003 xr 650r for........you guessed it 2500.00. There was a member here looking for one not long ago.

The mechanic seems fair as far as I can tell. I trust mechanics like lawyers and pitbulls. Not entirely no matter how nice they seem.

I'd get a second opinion, maybe third too.

My wife's Kia Sorento starting leaking oil real bad. Took it to Christian Brothers here in Parker, a supposedly "reputable and reliable" shop. We were immediately told she was driving a time bomb that needed a new engine, no ifs ands or buts.

Took it to Arapahoe Kia, they found a leaking oil filter gasket. Cost $10 to fix, been fine since.

I know a thing or two about the LS swap. Best thing ever for jeeps.

They just opened a Christian Bros in Castle Rock, wife took her car there to try them out and had a similar experience. We won't be going back.

Otherwise, I second the LS swap idea!
