View Full Version : What's with the lack of 10mm ammo?!?

I just bought a G29 and am trying to get to a range to run some ammo through it but can't. I try to give local shops my business but nobody anywhere near where I am has any 10mm ammo. Some even say they haven't seen any in months. Weird...but ok, I guess I'll have to go online to get some. But nooooooo, none there either! What's the story here? [Rant1]
Before anyone suggests reloading, I'd love to but not while living at a minuscule apartment. As soon as I can get myself into a home with a garage and some space, I plan to get set-up to reload.
So yeah, anyone have any idea where to get some 10mm ammo near Louisville or even online?
Thanks,
Shawn

10mm has never been an especially popular caliber to start with, and the Obama-inspired shortages have emptied the shelves with only the most popular calibers coming back in stock. Get a 9mm or 40 conversion for better access to ammo.

Double Tap
About $39/50 rounds or $375/1000
Either will get you ammo in a timely manner.

Circuits: I know 10mm isn't hugely popular but before I purchased this gun, I researched it and found that the ammo wasn't much more expensive than the .40 for my G22. However that was about a year ago and I didn't anticipate a nation-wide shortage. I mainly bought this G29 as a back-country gun to take with me while on mountain biking ventures etc where I'm far from anything/one. So I won't be needing tons of 10mm ammo but I do want to fire a few hundred through it so I can get a good feel for it. I never expected that to be a problem....but here I am.
Colorado Osprey: You got me all excited about that doubletap ammo for $375/1000. I thought it sounded too low and yeah that $375 only buys you 500 not 1000. Not that I guess that's terrible these days but I was hoping for a little better deal. That first link you sent sounds better. Thanks for the help.
Foxtrot: I checked Sportsmans guide (I order from them often) and figured they'd have some for sure but get this: every single brand of 10mm they "carry" is back-ordered. I couldn't believe it!
Anyway, thanks for the quick responses, guys.
I use doubletap it is great ammo, and about the only 10mm ammo out there that has not been downloaded. if you really want to get some #'s out of your 10mm get a 9x25 dillon barrel, and you have what amounts to a rifle round out of your handgun. I love mine.[Muaha]

The Gander Mountain in Thornton has had 10mm the last few times I have been there.

Colorado Osprey: I tried "The Hunting Shack" and the guy there told me that it'd be six months before they'd be able to ship the 10mm out to me and that .223 was three to five months out. WTF??? This is getting frustrating.
RcCrawler: Thanks for the headsup on Gander Mountain. I went to their site and there's nothing about 10mm at all...doesn't even say "out of stock". On another note, I noticed your screen name, are you involved with any other R/C? I've never tried crawling but have raced 1/10 scale on-road, messed around with 1/8 scale buggies and bashed a few Savages. Right now I'm only doing helicopters but would love to try some of that 1/5 scale gasser stuff. Do you know any groups around here that do that?

Specialty Sports in Colorado Springs in known for being pricey (about 15-20% higher than competitors) on less common ammo like 10mm, 6.5, and 6.8, but they had about 8 boxes of 10mm doubletap in stock yesterday. I don't know how long they'll last, but it might be worth a try if you're not too far away.

I just left there about a half hour ago, they had at least 5 boxes of 2 different brands of 10mm. didn't look at what brands or prices, but I know for a fact it is there.

I own both www.rccrawler.com and www.rcshortcourse.com
Crawling and short course are my 2 RC areas I focus in. I used to have a 1/5 scale offroad, but got rid of it and there isn't anything around here going on for them. My business partner in Nor-Cal is big into the 5th scale stuff though.

Cool, I'll check Gander Mountain out tomorrow.
And....that short course stuff looks pretty cool. Are you guys running mostly gas or electric?
Thanks again everybody for your contributions!

Ok guys, I've visited, called or emailed all recommended (and MUCH more) possible vendors of 10mm and nobody has ANYthing. Almost seems like there's not a single round of 10mm for sale in the USA. Is 10mm really that rare or is it a combination of it being a more rare round and the ammo shortage? Once the ammo manufacturers catch up, will I have much trouble finding it locally?
Im sure glad last summer when I had a feeling the shit was gonna hit the fan, I picked up an extra 1000 rounds, a box of bullets, and a few pounds of powder, for my 10's. imho your best bet is to put it on b/o at the sportsmans guide it will show up at some point, and if the prices drop, or if you find some in the mean time cancel it.

I think you're right. Looks as if it's not going to come easy so I might as well buck up and just take the back-order. Hopefully sooner rather than later, I'll get a reloading set-up so I won't have to deal with this BS anymore. Having 500-1000 rounds on hand would be great.
Have you contacted Doubletap.com to see what their delivery time is?
I thought they had 10mm readily available.

That is about the only place I haven't tried. However at around $.80 a round, it's not the best for breaking in a new gun. As in, I don't want to spend $300 in one afternoon for my 10mm only. Geeezus, that puts it in perspective doesn't it? It really wouldn't be hard to spend $500+ in a good day's worth shooting (all the guns). Ouch, what's happened to this sport?!? I've really gotta start reloading!!!
Anyway, once I'm used to the gun (G29), I'll probably go for Doubletap or some high power 10mm. This gun is mainly going to be my backwoods gun so once proficient, I don't anticipate putting a lot of rounds through it.
if you're ever down in pueblo, the local shop down here had 5 50 round boxes of cci blazer ammo on the shelf, when I was in there today.

Thanks for the heads-up. I would've bought them all but 2+ hours is a bit of a drive for five boxes. Being Saturday tomorrow, they'd probably be gone before I got there anyway.
you may be in luck, we just cleaned out my buddies safe, and he has around 8-10 boxes worth of winchester, remington, hp's and 2-3 boxes of hard cast, and he no longer has a 10mm, he had them in cans, so we will are going to box them up tomorrow, and i'll let you know what he wants for them tomorrow or friday,(he was thinking around 20 bucks a 50 round box) if you are still looking for some ammo.

Hey thanks for keeping me in mind. I'd definitely be interested. Let me know what he has and how much he wants and we'll see if we can work something out.
