View Full Version : Star Wars Weekend
**Thou shalt post no spoilers!**
Who's going?
Better question: In the spirit of concealed is concealed, what kind of security have you seen at local theatres?

Not going near a theater this weekend if I can help it so haven't got any observations to share.

Never seen a single Star Wars movie, I figure there is no reason to start now.
Saw it last night at the Cinemark on Powers in CO Springs. Bunch of us from the 501st Legion rented a theater to see it before we do appearances this weekend.

haha that's awesome.
I plan on seeing it during the next work week, hopefully it won't be an utter zoo.
I saw them as a kid in high school, truthfully they were no big deal. I bought the trilogy on VHS when they came out probably in 2001 or so for the kids, they were around 1 & 3 and I thought they'd like them some day. Since then the VHS tapes were replaced with disk and then BluRay and I'm sure they're close to being worn out. Both kids have been hooked big-time ever since. My son a lot, my daughter= HUGE SW fan. I was looking for tickets to take her but they're tough to find at the moment.

Saw it last night. Crowd wasn't as bad as I expected. A few uniformed officers walking around, one did a walk through our theater before the show. Otherwise no appearance of high security. My group had more than a few concealed carriers.

I'd like to see it but it won't be this weekend and next is Xmas weekend so guess it won't be until new year. Or maybe I wait for video and use that for an excuse for a new TV.

Thank you. I'm guessing you just saved me about 10 minutes.
Awesome! That's what a Star Wars movie used to be...and should be. Buh-bye, Lucas. You jackass.
I was at the AMC 24 in Highlands Ranch. They had a sign posting that costumes were OK, but there should be no blasters or things that appear to be guns. Lightsabers are OK, but turn them off for the movie. [Coffee]
There are no metal detectors, so I was carrying.

Yup, it was good. First movie I've gone to see in at least eight years and was worth the price of admission.
We went to the AMC 24 in the Ranch. Douglas County deputies were there in the lobby and walking through the theatres before and after to check the doors. Common sense stuff.
A lot of the kids (and some adults) were really into it with costumes. There were about 20-30 people in the theatre (we didn't do IMAX/3D) which was nice because we pretty much had our pick of seats since we got there a little early.
Everyone should go, or the terrorists win!

POTENTIALLY SPOILER-ISH
I'm not a big Star Wars fan but I'll wait for this to hit Redbox. It's bad when a couple of my buddies who are big Star Wars fans basically told me just to save my money by watching A New Hope and imagining that Luke had boobs. They've all said it's just a carbon copy of a movie from a plot, character and dialog standpoint.

And here I thought I was the only one. Care about as much about one as the other.
I've never really seen the movies, except for the ones with Jar-Jar. I'm going to see if I can find the originals on the Roku this weekend. It's been my experience that when a lot of people really like something, there is usually a reason. So I'd like to check it out.

I'm sorry that you've seen the newer ones without seeing the originals. You never knew what you were missing... :)
I went with my son this morning to a private showing through work...leather reclinable seats and seat trays; it was really nice to avoid the crowds. I like the movie and it was well done. There is something I don't like about it but I can't post that yet as it might give away the general plot of the show.

So, you didn't like it the first time and paid to see it a second time? LOL
EDIT: I will still buy it too ;)
I really only have two questions about this movie.
1) Is it better than Avatar?
2) Is it anywhere close to as good as District 9 or Jurassic Park?

It will depend on if the sequels are good. It kind of is and kind of isn't a reboot. I felt the same about this show as I did about Into Darkness.

With all the super-hype surrounding this movie, I don't I think can be as impressed as they hope I will be.
Kind of like Avatar for me. By the time I saw Avatar, I was like, "Best movie of all time? Hardly...." Good special effects though.

Going to see it in I-Max today we shall see.
Avatar was way over-hyped. I waited for Neflix on that one.
TFA (new Star Wars) is really good if it's the first one you've seen. It's excellent if you've only seen Ep 1-3 and it's what you should expect after Ep 4-6.
But to avoid getting lost, you should see Ep 4-6 first, at minimum. I have a feeling they will tie in Ep 1-3 in Ep 8 (the next movie after this one) in a major way but I will post no spoilers!

I'm kind of hoping that they just move on and forget about the prequels.

Have I mentioned I blame Lucas?
I have been told the last unaltered release (for home) was 1986 laserdisc. I have the DVD set and they are ridiculous.
One thing I like about Ep 7 is Lucas is out of the picture.
There are some pro-gun moments in Ep 7 too. But I won't name them because spoilers.

When I finally get around to watching the new one I thought I'd first re-watch the old ones in the "Machete order" (http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/) which is; IV, V, skip I (Jar Jar and CSPANesque debates) and treat II, III as a flashback, then VI-Return of the Jedi, as the finale.

Count me in as another not terribly excited about Star Wars.
I havent been in a movie theater since the 80s. I think it was Song of the South at the Westminster mall.
My God, could you imagine the meltdown if "Song of the South" were released today?

Not positive, I think it was, but it was pulled.
I borrowed a DVD copy of it from a buddy years ago. No idea how he got it, but it definitely isn't a camcorder taping TV.
It was NOT a commercial copy, so I suspect someone burned it from a VHS long ago.
Edit: Still have a VHS?

I LOVED this movie! It brought back the old Star Wars feel. Possible spoilers ahead, nothing major I swear.
In the lightsaber battles, no one was flipping around and twirling their saber's like ballerinas like in the prequels. They are BRUTAL and real, more like Luke vs Vader in Empire and Jedi, just a bit faster. All the actors (especially Ford) knock it outta the park! The special effects are spot on, but what stole the show for me was the way JJ introduced the Falcon! The whole sequence is in my opinion, the best of the whole movie. Oh and Chewie aint no sidekick anymore, they really fleshed him out and gave him some great moments/dialogue. I'll be seeing this several times.

It annoys me to no end that Michael Eisner pulled "Song of the South" and basically quarantined it. It was a wonderful movie and really was anti-slavery/anti-racism but of course since it was SET in a plantation, it is assumed to be bad. OTOH, I wouldn't mind at all if the new Lucasfilm relegated SW Episodes I-III to a salt mine vault.

If only I had a time machine.
For me it's like trying to forget I ate a shit sandwich and then eat the same shit sandwich again. So I don't think they order will help. Skipping Ep 1 is solid advice. Unless you have kids who like JarJar Binks and pod racing.
