So i have decided to go hunting again I haven't been since I was 14 so it's like I'm starting over I found my old pack that my grandpa had me carry. It was just extra clothes and food. I kinda feel like a beginner what should I take with me I will be hunting deer. I plan on doing a semi guided hunt just to get back in the swing of things. I'm sure when I'm out there memory will kick in I just want to be sure I'm prepared. So far I got camo a few base layers in different warmth levels, my rifle a few different gloves hat boots belt field dressing kit. Still undecided if I am going to purchase a new backpack with mossy oak pattern or use my black backpack. I am taking rope to help load the Deer in the truck if I'm lucky enough to get one. What else should I get so I'm prepared?

I did a pig hunt down in Texas a few months ago but that was not a real hunt all I needed was my rifle and ammo the guys at the ranch did everything else
2 knifes, one sharper. Warm clothing, tag for the animal your hunting, socks. Dont forget to meal prep. Years ago I went hunting with a group of friends, everybody was responsible for one dinner. One guy (who i dont hunt with anymore) brings 2 cases of beer and 2 bags of cheetos for dinner on his night.
Not knowing how long ago you were 14, I'll ask this, Did you have hunter safety back then, if not, it is required now before you can even buy any hunting license, unless you meet the "old man" criteria(born before Dec. 31, 1948). Orange, don't forget the required orange hat and required vest.
And practice. Get that hunting rifle out and shoot it before season. A few boxes would be good since it's been a while.

Depends on how you hunt. If you can "load the deer in the truck", you probably will only need the basics; required orange, license, hunter safety card if you are not "verified", rifle, ammo, field dressing kit (knife, sharpener, gloves, rope, zip tie, saw), binoculars, range finder, gps, some snacks/lunch, water, layered clothing, hand warmers, headlight, gaiters. You are posting this in December, are you hunting a late season this year or early next year, or are you preparing for next year? The "list" would vary greatly depending your hunting style and whether you will be hiking/away from camp/truck for extended periods. I've started a list that I give to my several of my hunting partners, let me know if you want it for ideas.
Cheers and good luck,
Tim
What season and which method of take are you considering?

that would be great I'm going early next year I will be hiking away from the truck. As far as loading the deer I can do it on my own my grandpa showed me how to load an animal on my own with some rope a pulley and a piece of ply wood. I am undecided on using a tree stand or a blind I got both on sale on Black Friday.
No matter the length or difficulty of the hunt I always take a basic survival kit. It contains: a space blanket, a lighter, flint and steel, something to assist in starting a fire (Esbit stove fuel, petroleum jelly soaked cotton balls or the store bought equivalent, small compass and iodine tablets. All housed in a Ziploc freezer bag. It weighs hardly anything but will help you survive a night in the wilderness. Things happen even on routine hunts that are easy in nature. It pays to be prepared.
