View Full Version : BESIDES AR's, what else can you build from a kit? 80% ers?

Just wondering if there are other firearms besides ARs that a relatively non-technical person can build from a kit? I remember years ago (like 30 years ago), SGN used to advertise M1911 kits that had everything but the frame. Do they still make those? And is there such a thing as an 80% 1911 frame that can be finished out by a hobbyist?

Curious more than anything else. I still have an 80% AR lower and jig that I haven't started on yet but I'm hoping to make it my winter "project."

There are a number of companies selling a 80% 1911 frame and jigs for them. The aluminum ones appear to be the easiest to work with.

AK receivers come in 80% kits as well. Flats you bend with a jig and weld the rails onto.

I'm sure there is more, but these are what I have knowledge of.

Tactical machine shows 80% 10-22s, although I have never seen them in stock.

Edit: they're actually in stock now...

Glocks, 1911s, AK variants, FALs, G3 patterns, etc. I have several belt fed (semi-automatic) - 1919s and the like.

M2 ma dueces also. Mac guns used to be available in kits. I'm currently working on a better glock kit. Ppsh. A few Derringer kits.

Also check parts kits on any surplus dealers site. Most of them have some form of receivers available
