Not long after Colorado went to the instant background check I heard a statistic claiming that the clause about it being illegal for a prohibited person to attempt to buy a gun was not enforced. Only the real boneheaded dealers were being prosecuted, not the prohibited persons.

Many of us have always claimed the laws on the books need to be enforced.

The timing makes the DA sounds like a political hack trying to get some Bloomberg cheese.

"Garnett believes people who repeatedly apply for a gun permit and know they shouldn't be allowed to have a firearm are dangerous and are the kind of people should not have access to them."

gun permit ? Wtf is this clown talking about. Amazing how clueless some of these people are. Also, the article pretty much just says they are going to enforce existing gun laws. DERP!

Go right ahead.

There has been a quiet trend of Boulder Libs buying guns (mostly handguns). So start cracking down! Be a real shame if any washed out hippies with priors thought they had a right to defend themselves from their ideological progeny.

so DA Garnett is now on record saying they've been doing a shitty job previously?

So were they willfully allowing illegal activity, or were they just incompetent? [dig]

ETA: based on the wording of the article, somebody doesn't know jack about the law- I hope it's the reporter, but I'm not that hopeful given it's Boulder... is the DA one of the Boulder county officials that are actually in the country legally?

The DA's office is looking for busy work?

The homeless are more of a problem. How about enforcing those laws? I know, not PC or hysteria driven enough.

I don't see a story here other than a DA documenting his own poor job performance. So you're going to "crack down" by beginning to enforce a 3yr old law? By all means princess, start doing your job.

Enforcing the existing gun laws. How original. The prosecutions for those attempting to buy with false info are so incredibly low, they might as well not have the process at all.

In addition to every other proposed 'common sense gun law' after these various shootings, this has absolutely the same impact that those proposed changes would have had on the prior acts. Absolutely nothing.

This is actually mildly scary to me. For as "violent" as normal gun owners are, when the political rhetoric ratchets upwards, it tends to be the democrats that make the (mostly empty) threats from what I can observe. Hopefully the threats stay empty.

Sounds like the PRB DA is trying to toe the company line that Obummer put forth yesterday. So glad I don't live there, and I vow to never live there. Hell, I'm just counting down the months until I can get the hell out of Denver!
