Been wanting one for a while now and ended up getting one for Christmas.

Just picked it up last weekend and haven't had a chance to put any rounds through it yet. Thought I'd share my initial impressions.

This might be one of the most comfortable pistols I've ever wrapped my hands around. Just feels like it was made to fit my hand. It points very naturally as well. I would describe the grip angle to be somewhere between a 1911 and a Glock.

The pistol appears to be very well built and the fit and finish are excellent. There definitely appears to be more moving parts inside it than most of the other striker fired handguns out there.

I absolutely love the trigger. Relatively short take up, very clean break, and not really any perceived over travel. The reset is relatively short as well but the trigger seems to "bounce" forward a bit on reset and there is a little bit of take up after the trigger. Definitely not as good as the Glock reset but I don't think it will bother me much.

Not sure when I'll get it out to the range but I'll update this thread with a range report when I can.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

One of my favorite "feeling" handguns of all time was my P30. Just not a DA/SA fan. This has been on the list of handguns "not to touch" cause I know what will happen.

By far my favorite HK handgun so far. Very nice, but I hate the mag release.

Update.

No range time or shots fired yet though.

So, I was playing with it the other night (the handgun, you sicko's) and did make one observation. The grip angle is apparently a lot closer to the 1911 than I had realized. Practicing some quick "point shooting" in the house (empty gun of course) I noticed when it came up on target I couldn't see the front sight as I had the gun aimed low. I'm one of those people that finds the grip angle on a Glock is about perfect for me and makes the gun point very naturally. I've always had to make an effort to roll my wrists up a little with the 1911 and anything with a similar grip angle. The VP9 might take a little getting used to.

Also, I did have some reservations about the magazine release when these things first came out. After actually using it, I don't see it being an issue for me. I've got smaller hands and typically have to turn just about any pistol sort of sideways to hit the magazine release. I can operate the VP9 in a similar manner with my thumb without much thought on my part. I can also activate it with my trigger finger without much effort and without rotating the gun in my hand. That maneuver feels a bit awkward to me as I usually have my trigger finger along side the frame pointing forward during magazine changes so taking my finger off the trigger and moving it rearward doesn't quite feel right. Not sure if it's something that would feel more natural with time or if I'll just stick to running it with my thumb like everything else.

Anyhow, just sharing this info in case any of you were thinking about getting one. I'll get a range report up some day.

Hope you run it at matches.

I can get you one of those Texas sized mag releases like I run on my G19. [emoji12]

Love mine. Look into the trigger spring kit on hkparts. If you want to feel mine let me know.

Love my VP9. If they came out with a "standard" mag release it would be the perfect pistol in my book. Fits like a glove.

I ordered a VP40 LE (Night Sights and 3 mags) today from Buds Gun Shop, I can't wait to get my hands on it, I want to get into IDPA and this is the pistol I want to use. I have a HK P2000 and I find the mag release very easy to use with either hand once you get used to it, I am left handed and these pistols are truly ambidextrous. For my job I have to qualify with the GLOCK 19/26 so I have attended an initial week GLOCK qualifying course twice and a GLOCK re-qualifying course twice so I can operate a GLOCK efficiently but releasing the mag and locking the slide back are not natural motions for a south paw. I am a GLOCK fan, if I had to stake my life on one pistol it would be the GLOCK my HK has been every bit as reliable so it would come in as a close second.

I bought one but surprisingly never shot it. Gun ADD. Who wants to hit the range!

My 17yo son has over 2K trouble free rounds through his, All handloads. Excellent accuracy and ergonomics. Plenty of holster choices. While magazines are not the easiest to find they are out there locally in the Fort Collins area.

Go out and shoot it!

I designed some springs for the VP9. Hkparts.net sells them. I personally love the VP9, the trigger is very easily taken 3.5 lbs with a very nice and crisp break. Of course, I do trigger work on them. Anyway, just wanted to say that the VP9 is my second most favorite Hk next to my USP's, and has my most favorite trigger from Hk. For those that remember me, that says something.

As soon as they make a VP45, that may very well be my favorite Hk pistol.

So, the VP9 went to the range today. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there. It did get favorable reviews from the people who shot it. Sounds like it's a great shooter. I can't wait to try it for myself in a month or two.

Update.

Finally got a chance to actually shoot my VP9.

Took it out and ran it in the IDPA match out at CRC today. Put right at 100 rounds through it.

In a nutshell, I like it.

Here's my take on it so far. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and your mileage may vary.

Feels great in the hand. Points very nicely. The trigger is super nice for an out of the box handgun. From point blank to about ten yards it honestly doesn't shoot any better for me than your run of the mill Glock. Once the shots become longer it definitely seems to be easier for me to make good hits compared to all of the other striker fired handguns I've tried. The paddle magazine release didn't bother me at all and didn't seem to slow me down any. What did slow me down a bit was the slide not locking back on empty. Not really the guns fault. My natural grip usually has my thumb riding the slide stop. I really have to make a conscious effort to keep my thumb off of it. But that isn't just on the HK. I've had that problem with many makes and models.

Anyhow, I like the VP9. Well, except for the silly glow in the dark sighs. Those will definitely be going away soon.

Unless I sell the handgun to fund the same gun in FDE.
