Guns can be dangerous in the wrong hands. But so are articles (http://www.salon.com/2014/10/07/my_day_at_the_gun_nuts_confab_blunt_talk_high_dram a_and_mass_paranoia/)about guns (http://www.salon.com/2014/09/16/wretched_disgusting_commie_leftists_my_nightmare_f ighting_gun_nuts_in_a_red_state/)written (http://www.newrepublic.com/article/120621/nyc-cop-killer-ismaaiyl-brinsley-shows-problem-our-gun-laws)by people (http://www.newrepublic.com/authors/alec-macgillis)who don’t understand (http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2014/03/29/piers-morgan-last-show/7052009/)anything about them (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/04/03/congresswoman-doesn-t-know-how-guns-work.html). There’s sadly no excuse to be ignorant about firearms. They’ve been around for hundreds of years. They’re owned and operated safely by tens of millions of Americans each year. Our Constitution guarantees our individual right to possess guns (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/28/AR2010062802134.html) so that we might be able to defend ourselves from those who would violently take away our freedom. Many gun controllers, however — some of whom have bylines for major media organizations — don’t actually know the first thing about firearms.

Here’s a good example of the kind of self-inflicted injury that can result from weaponizing an ill-informed opinion about guns and gun-related paraphernalia, courtesy of Ryan J. Reilly (https://twitter.com/ryanjreilly/status/500981295359741952) of Huffington Post:

I believe these are rubber bullets, can anyone confirm? #Fergurson (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Fergurson?src=hash)pic.twitter.com/iCsFi6qoIa (http://t.co/iCsFi6qoIa)

He makes a good point. If you regularly report on a topic you should learn enough about that topic to be able to report accurately about it. This isn't often done in practice....

Which is sad and ironic considering it is fear that precludes their knowledge. The same concept, fear, that they constantly throw down on anyone who wants more discussion on any of their political favorites.

Anyway, #7 is terrible too. I'd say if it is such a great idea, let the cops lead off with that technology until they prove it exists, other than I don't want to see innocent officers get hurt.

The attitude some anti-gunners have about guns is that guns are such horrible objects that even taking the time to learn about them somehow "contaminates" the listener.

IOW they're not just uninformed, they'd deliberately uniformed and proud of their ignorance.

Which is hardly unique to guns. Liberals are deliberately uninformed and proud of their ignorance about physics, economics, history, etc. What really gets me is when they display their vast scientific ignorance and then shriek about conservatives being "anti-science".
