I have a M1A and it is just an old standard rifle made in the early 80's I think.
It has the standard springfield flash hider on it.
Does it make any difference how a rifle shoots if I put a different flash hider on it?
I was looking at a Smith Vortex
Any opinions?

Newer/better flash suppressor designs can make a huge difference in flash reduction - none will make much difference in how (well) it actually shoots, other than initial POI change when first installed. Smith Vortex is one of the best out there for reducing flash.

If you're swapping out a hider, why not add a brake or combo unit. If this is you first brake read some reviews and be aware they can be loud. My friend's son shot my gun without ear protection as he likes to do (I warned him) . Made his ears ring for quite a while. The older I get the more I like brakes.
