OK. I get it. It's snowing a lot on the east coast. It's hard for people to get around. Flights are cancelled.
Is it really worthy of 24/7 news coverage? For crying out loud...you'd think it was the first time they'd seen a big snow storm.

NYPD patrolling Central Park in snowmobiles? I see the making of a movie!

So unseasonably warm December in the northeast is absolute proof of man made global warming ... blizzard a couple weeks later in the same place apparently doesn't disprove AGW because its just "weather". [Bang]
They have to get 24/7 coverage. They have to justify all the insane overtime the highway dept. is getting. Its all part of the SAFE act...

Lady on the weather channel doing live feed from central. I s**t you not she showed everyone the three coats, full neoprene wet suit and then stated she had warming patches stuck to her torso under the wet suit. What a bunch of mamby pamby's .

So a friend of mine who lives just outside DC just posted on facebook that you will face a fine and potential arrest if you are caught traveling around NYC right now... Because we can't let people be TOO free, right?

I can't decide if it's just a slow news cycle, or if the entire Northeast stands out as the 2016 front runner for the candyass of the year award.

They take that award every year.

I can't decide if it's just a slow news cycle, or if the entire Northeast stands out as the 2016 front runner for the candyass of the year award.
Multiple factors:
1. We as a society/culture have gotten soft and candy-ass and unable to deal with "stress". The pioneers would have laughed at adults over 18 needing "safe zones".
2. Recent warm winters have made people even less used to coping with what should be normal weather.
3. The sensationalistic 24-hour news cycle means reporters gotta report something. Omnipresent cell phones and digital cameras mean everyone can share immediately so we're flooded with images of ... weather.
4. The fact the weather pattern stretches from North Carolina up past New York makes it a massive event that everyone can share. If their figures are right, 10% of the country's population is in blizzard conditions and over 25% are being affected by this weather pattern. There's not a lot that affects 25% of the country simultaneously.
5. Reporting on the weather means they don't have to report on Hillary's misdeeds.
... and yes, they're a bunch of candy asses who can't deal with the Real World.
The only things about it that chafes my butt ever so slightly is that it seems to be screwing with the shipping companies. I have stuff on order from several vendors that I fear might take a day or two longer to get here.

Pioneers were adults and 1/2 way across the country by the time they were 18.

And don't forget Aloha;
6. EVERY bit of extreme weather can be over hyped to push the lie of man caused climate change (so they can push for more consolidation of power in the hands of the oligarchy ... and take even more liberty, wealth and property from the people)

What do you want them to report on? Hillary's crimes?
They need something big that goes with the agenda, not against.
Call me a conspiracy nut, but I have to wonder what REAL news the mass media are concealing/obscuring with the coverage of a damned snow storm...[tinhat]

What cracks me up is back east, it's the end of the world snowstorm, millions will be killed, hide your dog etc.
We get the same thing out here it's a winter storm warning.
Meh..
Okay TFOGGER, you're a conspiracy nut, but that doesn't mean you are not 100% right! Same conclusion we came up with around here. And how about CONGRESS deciding that kids can go sledding on capitol hill...must be NICE to be that caught up!
Man, I used to live in Pennellville, NY, north of Syracuse in Oswego County, where we'd get the lake effect snow coming off of Lake Ontario. People here in Colorado and down state in New York City don't know what the fuck snow really is! And I didn't have a 4wd then either, drove a Ford van.
In that area where I lived there were "snow belts" where it wasn't uncommon to get completely snowed in. As in, open your front door and there's snow up to the eaves.

The snow in NY is usually much more dense than out here. There were years (1992-1993ish) where we got FEET of snow dumped and plows simply couldn't move it. They dug out the last couple of V-plows they had and used backhoes/frontend loaders to remove snow. This was in Ulster County. There were years where my house got dug out with a backhoe, and others where I had to plow using a bulldozer.
One thing people might not realize about NYC is that there is nowhere for the snow to go. It basically needs to be scooped up, loaded in trucks, and dumped somewhere (or the ocean if they let them) to melt.
More "interesting" are the people down south, where they have no means of moving the snow. A college buddy of mine living in Virginia has over 18" to deal with.
Anyway, this sort of "news" is why I don't bother watching any of it.[panic]
Why can't they just pack it down with the Trash Trucks?

yes! Dump it in the ocean! That will fix the global warming problem.

I have no doubt it's difficult to deal with. It's difficult anywhere. But 24 hour news coverage like it was the end of the world? I was under the impression that snow in NY was a pretty common occurrence in the winter months.
