At that short range I'm surprised that sight offset wasn't an issue. So either the cop is real good or real lucky. (the opening frame of the video circles the cop at the trunk of the car with a handgun, but I think it was the cop on the left with a rifle that took the shot ... of course its hard to tell from the video so I don't know).

Heavy traffic moving both directions behind target as well. Must have been a stressful shot.

Yeah, I don't envy that officer. Had it gone bad that would be a career ender.

The commentary by the camera operator pretty much sums it up.

Maybe there will be a small but perceptible drop in robberies in that area.

Statistically speaking there's a good chance that it will be more than a small drop. Most violent crimes are committed by an amazingly small percentage of the population.

I bet the "suspect" won't be holding anyone else hostage again.

Not only does Texas have the death penalty, they've installed an express lane. What a money saver.

They're still waiting to see how many "outraged, citizens" the family can stir up, before any discipline action might be taken.

Well done sir. Well done indeed. Problem (Hostage situation), Officer puts a clean shot right into the brain housing group of the hostage taker = problem solved.

Who were the other two people after he got shot? The ones crying? One looked like they came from the car, but the police just let them mingle about?

I believe that one of the crying people was the hostage and the other was a co-worker of the hostage.

Poor outlaw. He was turning his life around before this happened. Now he'll never live up to his full potential. On a side note, the "videographer" started to really annoy me. Silence would have been better.

It looked like the hostage Walked away to the right, behind the building. Then the guy came from/near the car, he was the one that was mad and hitting the other car. Then a woman came from the far left to hug that guy.

Man that's a hard shot to take like others have said. Glad it worked out the way it did, could you imagine what the headlines would be if he missed. Officer deserves a metal for sure!

What I noticed was every cop on the scene was walking around with a gun in his hand, with the perp clearly deceased and no longer a threat. Piss-poor gun safety IMO, holster the damn things!

Respectfully - that isn't how we train. You never know if that was the only threat. You don't holster until you are sure you aren't going to be a target yourself by some unseen threat. I didn't see, in the video, any improper firearm handling after the shot. Low ready and keep your eyes open and scan your surroundings for a while. If you don't train for that, you are destined to become a victim.

Not me. I'd be holstered. But only because my rifle would be in my hands.

Hard to tell which cop took it, especially since the "camera man" jerked right when the shot came. The article says both officers shot, but I'm not so sure about that. Either way, that's an incredibly tough shot. Good job to the officers.

Was obvious to me that the officer with the rifle fired. Not sure about the officer with the handgun.
