View Full Version : wedding ideas
Looking for a wedding venue in Colorado or southern Wyoming. Hoping to find something with cabins and camping along some sort of waterway that is somewhat secluded. Don't want or need anything too fancy.
Not really the church type. Hoping to find something that has some modern cabins, a decent area for a very informal ceremony, somewhat secluded, maybe even allow tent camping. Thinking of accommodations for around 30-40 people max.
The Peaceful Valley Ranch does weddings. Nice chapel on the mountain with views of the divide. A dude ranch on the river with cabins, meeting rooms, restaurant, pool, fishing, etc. There's a USFS campground 1/2 mile away.

We rented out a vbo for WAY cheaper and WAY nicer for the price for our wedding.

Way too fancy and $$$$.
The place we have almost settled on is : Fire Side Cabins in Pagosa (http://firesidecabins.com/)
I really liked grand lake, but I'd avoid staying at the cabins from the biggest place up there. We did for our wedding..... these are the shittiest old bungalo's. The rooms were the cheapest retrofit possible, I can't even go into the shit that was wrong with it. Tiny. And the tiny cabins are split. So the old couple next door we didnt hear the murmor of their talk, we heard every word and the nuance in them. Dog's nails on the floor. Every move creaked. The walls seemed practically non existant with that like less than a cm fake wood slat looking almost cardboard covering.
Then went to Glenwood for honeymoon and that was pretty nice. Hanging lake with kinda greenish blue lake bed and fish was incredible.

Wow that hazy trip to AZ turned out to be more than a quick golfing adventure.

Whittington. Cabins are great and inexpensive. Grab a priest in Raton, head for the range and oh what memories you'll have.[Beer]
Horsetooth Reservoir is pretty near your area. They have cabins, camping and fishing. You could rent a RV and have a fine time. Its a very nice lake.
We rented out a vbo...
What's a vbo?
It stands for Vacation By Owner. We checked around at venues in Colorado and $5,000 for 4 hours was pretty normal. Instead, we rented a house in Las Vegas for three days that slept ten, had a 12'x60' covered patio next to a heated pool and Jacuzzi complete with a water feature for $900. It was a steal compared to anything here, and since it was within driving distance, 90% of our guests still came.

Thats what I'm finding out $5k is the low end just to have a place not including lodging, food, drinks etc at places that actually are set up for weddings. Hell some places even want to charge $50 per night to have a camp fire [facepalm]
My cousin got married at the place over in Morrison that over looks the city. This is where I got the $5,000 for four hours of a reception. They didn't even dust anything so there were spider webs all over the place and it seemed like the staff just stood around to yell at the kids to not climb on the rocks and trees outside.

Following for info... I'm fortunate my wife was married previously and did the big extravagant and expensive wedding already. We are married legally, but decided we'd do a low key "outdoorsy" type ceremony at some point. Two kids later, we'll get around to it eventually.

We're in a similar situation. It's a pain in the ass to make it happen when life is in full swing.

Glad I'm not the only one lol, someday...
If you can still run that's my suggestion, lol. Run away as fast as you can!!!
As another alternative, my cousin married his wife about a month before my wedding. They held the ceremony in their backyard and asked me to join them in marriage. Everyone they wanted to come was able to attend and they were able to afford very nice food and decor since everything else was so low budget. Plus, it sure is nice to not have to transport your gifts anywhere. As long as there is food, booze, and music, no one cares that the dance floor is your garage.

Sheesh. Took darn near two pages before someone tried to talk some sense into the OP.
^^^ My brother told me we could should go to Mexico when I was getting ready to walk down the aisle. Gave my brother inlaw the same offer.

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort is pretty nice. I was in a wedding up there. Probably a little on the high $ side but tons to do around there.

Snatched them words right outta my mouf!
But ya want cheap, the wife and I got married in the fire station of some little VFD in Central New York. Got hitched, rode around the block in a limo, went back, "Let's eat!" Impressive.
