I know there are a few of you that dabble a bit in making your own kydex holsters. Thought I'd start this thread to share pictures, helpful tips, design ideas, etc.

Here was my first attempt at a simple appendix holster for my Glock 43. I don't seem to have a picture of it with the clip installed. The holster worked fairly well but I did learn a thing or two making it. For one thing, if you have a Glock with the loaded chamber indicator on the extractor, you either need to block that part out or mold the holster with a dummy round in the chamber. I didn't do either and the empty gun worked great but when it was loaded the bumpy thing on the extractor drug a bit. Still usable but could have been better.

The next one I did was just a basic OWB like everyone makes. Turned out pretty well. Easy to holster and draw the weapon and the retention is just the way I wanted it. I have another one in the works with a forward cant in FDE.

Just put this one together today for my J frame. The clip is just temporary for now. Robbed it from another holster. I need to order one or possibly make one for it. The permanent clip will mount to both eyelets so that it can't rotate. Looks like this one is going to work out well. Retention is great and it is easy to draw and holster the revolver.

Thats awesome Ray, what are you using to mold them? I have a couple knives I want kydex sheaths for and wanted to make them to add some extras.

I just heat the Kydex in the oven (250* for about three to five minutes) and I have a homemade press made out of wood that uses some pieces of foam that I cut from a foam mat that was some sort of thing for kneeling on.

Glad you mentioned the knife. I have a Ka-bar that I want to make a sheath for and I keep forgetting.

Nice looking holsters! That last one didn't take long for you to get to making...

I had to have something to carry the revolver in. Can't just toss it in a pocket. [Coffee]

Looks good my wife could use the revolver one, if she ever decides to carry.

Wore my little j-frame holster all day Friday and Saturday. Carries nicely and very comfortable in the appendix position. Probably won't be using it too much any more though since I have a nice leather rig from Hbar. I much prefer the feel of a leather holster against my body.

Started on a sheath for one of my knives last weekend. Still in the early stages but thought I'd share a picture anyways.

Nice work in the kydex Ray! You can spot form portions with a heat gun as well if you want to adjust or change any areas after your initial pressing. Actually when I make IWB holsters I do the whole shell in phases. Keep up the good work, you're doing well!

Thanks. I've done a bit of minor tweaking with the heat gun. Comes in handy for fine tuning small spots for sure. I'm definitely still in the learning curve stage for sure.

Cool a kydex thread. Did these this winter while my shoulder healed from surgery:
