View Full Version : Greetings from Firestone
Howdy!
I'm in northern Firestone and am mainly a stay-at-home dad. I recently resigned from my position as Armory Supervisor at Magpul after a few years in order to raise my boys. It was a hard decision, but has been infinitely rewarding.
My family are fairly recent transplants to CO, having relocated here for the Magpul gig a few years ago. We absolutely love CO and look forward to wringing all the adventure we can out of the mountains now that our boys are getting old enough to be portable.
What's with the 'trading post troll' tag? I joined when we were looking at moving out here, and just re-discovered the site. Hopefully this isn't indicative of the tone of this forum.
Welcome aboard!
Oh yeah have a thick-skin, just kidding.

Everyone starts as a "newbie, or Trading Post Troll." Has nothing to do with you personally or the "tone of this forum."
Tags are based on your post count and will change as you post more - Trading post replies don't add to your count.
Several members have unique tags given to them by mods for various reasons.
Keep posting outside the trading post and you'll be an SSDG before you know it.
Welcome!
There's lots of good people here. Thick skin might be required but don't worry about the tag.
Feel free to sling some poo!
WHAT IS IT WITH SOME NEWER MEMBERS???

You've been a member for nearly 5 years, you could have been at least a "machine gunner" by now....

I must've joined when I was researching CO gun laws prior to moving out, but didn't save the link for some reason. A buddy reminded me about the site yesterday. I used to spend a lot of time on forums, mostly snipershide, m4c, and arf, but the kids keep me pretty busy nowadays.

The notes under user name are more of an indicator of post count, unless the powers that be choose to entertain themselves with something random and entertaining resulting from a post on the forum. Trading post troll is nothing more than the inability to not post in the trading post until a cirtain number of post or a period of time have past. Mine just changed from "High Power Shooter" to "Machine Gunner" though the high power shooter tag applies more to my shooting activities as that is most of what I do out at CRC. The forum is what you make of it, however be aware you need to work it out with staff here if you intend to use your time here more for commercial interest rather than a member of the shooting community.
PS: please message or email me your FFL info if you have a Business name, number and physical address, but do not publicly post them here til you have cleared it with staff, I wouldnt want to get you chased off on the first day.

Welcome! Contact info on your services will be helpful after any forum requirements are met.
If you need thicker skin until you have a chance to feel out the site, HBARLeatherneck creates some fine leather products. ;)

Don't worry about the thickness of my hide. Was in the Army as a Fulda Gap speedbump from 87-91, and LE from 92-08, including a few years working in a federal prison guarding the Underwear Bomber. He actually beat me to Colorado by a year or so. ;)
I bet that on his first day in Colorado he was thinking, "Man, what's with the attitude on these guys!?"

Welcome.
As has been mentioned, we're very strict about the whole "commercial posting" thing. Sites like bARF.com take in lots of $$ with advertising, etc. We think that tends to degrade the positive community interaction among our members here. We even prefer to play down the Trading Post as it distracts from the discussion forum side of things. It seems to work well for us as this community is much like an extended family.
Out of curiosity, aside from the prison guard time, where were you on the job? We've got quite a few current and former LEO's here. Seems the best ones appreciate firearms in citizens hands as much as their own.

Considered it, but it seemed too wordy.

I was a small-town cop in Southern Michigan, as well as being a Sheriff's Deputy. I was on the Dive Team, Warrant Team, Meth Team, and Assistant Sniper Team Leader. Our area was hit hard by meth, and I was on call-outs a couple times a week, which made home life pretty stressful. Promised my wife that I would get off the road before we had kids, and we both needed a change of scenery. I was active in Michigan in getting the CCW laws changed several years back. Used to be a 'may-issue' state, but we got it changed. I was also an NRA Firearms Instructor and taught Eddie Eagle in schools when I was a cop.

Welcome! Glad you found your way back to the forum. Maybe you can work your magic on some of the laws here hmmmm?

It's a different dynamic out here. Michigan has the entrenched union enclaves of Detroit, Lansing, Flint, et al. They always vote D as a rule, but it's a war zone, so they understand that it's a good idea to keep a gat around to defend yourself against the crackheads on the next block.
Out here it's the onslaught from the left coast along with the liberal college town hipsters that have everything screwed up. Add to that the recent influx of the doper refugees, and it gets pretty sporty politics-wise.
