WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A newly sworn-in police officer on her first shift with her Virginia department was shot and killed Saturday and two of her colleagues were wounded in a confrontation stemming from a call about an argument.
Officers received a call around 5:30 Saturday evening in Woodbridge, just outside Alexandria, about a "verbal argument," Sgt. Jonathan Perok, spokesman of the Prince William County Police Department, said. It's not clear how the altercation between the suspect and the police began the suspect is in custody and was not injured, he said.
The department announced on its Facebook page that Officer Ashley Guindon had died, "as a result of her injuries sustained during the incident."

God that's terrible.
That about sums it up. What's with the trend of people shooting police officers? Seems like a result of one sided media coverage.
Horrible, horrible story. May God bless her and her family.

You're probably being rhetorical....but.....
The ends justify the means.
The government stands down while officers are killed, then the government tells the sheeple that the government needs to take away some liberties in order to provide better security, then the government repeats the cycle resulting in an erosion of individual liberty.
What did the federal government do in Ferguson? The government didn't investigate the perps, they investigated the police.
What did the federal government do in Balitimore? In this case the local government encouraged the mayhem while the feds investigated the police.
What did obama do during the "beer summit", during Ferguson, during Baltimore, obama blamed the police. Don't think that people don't see this and decide they don't have to follow the rules and that it is OK to shoot at the police. Classic communist tactics, terrorize the subjects into giving up their freedom in the name of security.

I sincerely believe this is the result of the society the left has cultivated over the last 50 years or so. And it's going to get worse before it gets better.
I enjoyed the many years I spent wearing the badge even thought much of it was a PITA.
I grieve the loss of this officer and all the others that went before her, and those that will inevitably come after her.
Speechless, man that's terrible. Hope all you in blue stay safe and watch your 6...

Woodbridge is the city south of me. It's very much suburban and sort of like Thornton or Northglenn. It's where they have the outlet malls and the one Ikea in Virginia. It's not the hood, but it's definitely "multicultural" and the sort of place where the Fed-state-local govs rabbithole many of the "refugees" they bring in. Like Northglenn, it's got those areas where they try and plunk down "low socioeconomic status" housing projects in the midst of otherwise middle class communities and then can't understand why the volume of police calls for service steadily increases and the middle class start moving out.
WTF,,sad very sad, prayers sent to her family. Speedy recovery for other injured LEOs.

I think some of it is just that we as a community are self reporting ALL occurrences, so it feels higher than normal. I thought someone recently posted up stats showing the trend is going up though. I feel like another component, in addition to what had already been mentioned, is similar to what we see with "mass shootings." Meaning that since it's retorted in the media more frequently, that it's becoming the "thing to do" for career criminals. Very unfortunate.

I also feel quite connected to the area as I lived in Alexandria for several years and often spend time in Springfield and Woodbridge.

The traffic is miserable right? Do you like Colorado much more? I sure miss it compared to nova. This place is a ticking time bomb.

Well I used to love Colorado a lot more. Our traffic is becoming a nightmare and the people are starting to suck. I remember waving at people and being polite and now everyone is rude, just like DC Metro

Pretty much! I haven't been happier since moving to Littleton, now I can just stay in my quiet little corner of the metro area, 5 miles from work, and I'm a happy camper.

It's a tragic story to hear. It's not the easiest pill to swallow that someone might try to kill you when you go to work.
Classic communist tactics, terrorize the subjects into giving up their freedom in the name of security.
This strategy has been used throughout history to exploit human nature.

Dang, 20 years ago, Woodbridge was suburbia, lots of military families as the homes were affordable for the poor schmucks assigned to the Pentagon. It seems like anyone middle class in the DC area either bought 20-25 years ago (or more) or has to live 2+ hours outside the actual metro area ...

I am glad we are honoring the Women/Men in blue, but there are just to many of these threads. Hoping for a lot less next year/soon. Until then, RIP.

And all those families rent out those homes for $3k/mo to the newly stationed. The military-owner/military-renter market is Huge here and successful because of the general accountability/networking and being able to ask around about potential renters, especially among the commissioned officers.
