I will post more info when it comes in.
Both the officer and suspect were pronounced dead at separate hospitals.
Is it just me that thinks when I read this line that the officer was taken to the closest, level one trauma center and the suspect was taken to a medical facility specializing in foot disorders about 30 miles away from the scene.
Always a tragedy.
Be safe.
Wow. In HEB where I used to live at one point in time. How times have changed.
Prayers to the officer's family, friends, and co-workers.
Another sad day for LEOs
Do LEOs not wear vest any more,,mandatory,in my family of LEOs
If an artery in the leg is hit a vest is not going to help.... It is sad to see this news more and more lately.

The vest blocks the largest target (i.e. the torso) however, there is still a lot not covered by your vest. I know that where I work they are a mandatory thing, but I can't speak for everywhere.

When we deployed to Hurricane Katrina, we stoped in Euless for the night. The PD provided security for our 10 vehicles. They were great guys.
Regarding vests - big gap is in the arms. The gap between the side of the vest, below the armpit and the shoulder. From what I heard, it sounds like this is where Cpl. Carrigan in Park County was hit. Isosceles vs weaver, but that is a debate for elsewhere.

This is so sad. :( What the hell was going on with the suspect? At first glance, it seems like a Death-by-Cop.
Absolutely tragic.

Investigation is showing pretty much a pure ambush. He was released (probably still under the influence) earlier in the day after an arrest or something. He broke into a house shortly after and stole the guns including a rifle. He then went to the park and started shooting. He was in a ditch when he started shooting at the Officers.
