View Full Version : All my ladies are currently nekkid...what do you recommend?

So here is a picture of my current "evil" rifles. As you can see, they are all nekkid and have no optics to wear. The two AR15s have magpul sights and the AK has its iron sights.

I don't have much of a budget, so I'm thinking only the 308 (far left) and the AR15 with the fixed stock will get any sort of glass and I will leave the other AR and AK with only iron sights.
I was thinking of something like a Vortex Sparc II on the one AR (open to recommendations for that one too)...but I'm really stumped on what direction to go with the 308.

I want to take advantage of what the 308 has to offer ballistic -wise but I'm looking to meet a modest price point ($300-500) and I'm not sure what ranges I want to take her out to...probably 100< and >500 yards to start as I have very limited access to longer ranges at this stage of life.
I haven't even shot this one yet (or the AK [LOL])

How would you prefer to set these up optics-wise if they were your firearms? The 308 is an 18" rifle length gas system, the two AR15s are 16" mid length gas systems, and the AK...is...an AK.

I wouldn't put anything on the ak (I like irons on those). Check out primary arms for reasonably priced red dot optics.

AR15 - Red dot (aimpoint or Vortex), irons/mbus are perfectly fine also

For the AR10 - Viper PST 1-4 on a Larue or ADM mount

AK - don't own one so i have no clue, I just know the mounting options are limited thats why most go with irons.

I second this.

You could always look into primary arms stuff. They are more budget friendly and have life time warranty and their customer service is great.

The fixed 10x or 12x will allow you to get out pretty far 600y-800y easy. They also fit your budget. The variable is more expensive, but is more functional and worth the extra dough.

I have become a firm believer in quality optics, magnified scopes anyway, red dots I can go cheaper. I would not go out and buy 3 or 4 optics at once. Decide what you want to shoot and how you want to shoot. I have changed my mind (and optics) too many times and always loose money...

A little late, but the Burris Prism Scopes have a deal where you get a free fast fire.

Makes 4 optics a little cheaper...

Hurry and purchase the Burris AR-536 from the trading post so it will stop tempting me!

This is what I put on my AK recently. I was able to get the riser mount deal. I'd order that and wait. Maybe 2. I'd like to pick up at least one more for one of my MP15-22. The price is right and it mimics an Aimpoint T/H-1/ 2.

I picked up a UTH rail from Amazon for mounting.

You could also try it on one of the ARs w/ the riser as well. If it works out, you'll have two red dots and mounts for under $300.

I'm sort of a red dot/glass snob but wanted to try something inexpensive for the AK as it is now a truck gun and I didn't want a lot of $$$ invested in it in case of theft.

I currently have in addition to the above item, for reference, Aimpoint T1 on Larue mount, Aimpoint PRO on included mount, Trijicon TA31 on included mount, Eotech XPS2, Eotech XPS2-RF, an Eotech 3X and an Aimpoint 3X.

The Bushnell isn't even close to any of those but for about the same as the tax on one of those, it's not too shabby. But, only time will tell.

I ended up with a Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10x44 on my 308 AR. I looked at a lot of optics, Leupold VX-2, VX-3, Nikons and Burris all in the a similar price range. I liked the glass on the Vortex Viper series better than any of them. I find the 2.5-10 to be a nice range for the 308. The 1x-zoom is nice for 5.56 and 300AAC at short-medium range but the 308 to me is more of a medium-long range tool for me. I'm looking at targets in the 100-600 yard range which I think the 2.5-10 fits pretty well. The eye relief is nice on the Viper HS 2.5-10x44 as well. It's priced well too at around $429.
