Again this year Burris Optics, a Colorado Company, is the main match sponsor for the Area 2 Rocky Mountain Regional Steel Challenge Championship.

Burris has put over $3,500 on the prize table. Prizes are given out via random drawing.

Like previous years the match will be held at the Pueblo West Sportsmans Assn range in Pueblo, Colorado.

Shooters under 16 shoot for free.

You can shoot up to four different guns for match score. This is a cash payback match with all profits going back to the top shooters in divisions with 10 or more shooters.

We will set up all 8 Steel Challenge stages. Total round count is a minimum of 195 rounds.

Those that are shooting the IDPA-SSP division (USPSA Production is comparable) a cover garment is not required. However all other IDPA gear rules/requirements apply.

Pistol Caliber Carbine will again be offered.

Fridays match will be open squadding and shooting can start as early as 11:00. Saturdays match starts at 8:00.

Lunch is provided for Saturday shooters.

Contact for with any questions you might have.

Below is a link to the application.

Hmmm, I haven't shot Steel Challenge since the old Wes Thompson range days ... tempting.

Hoser,

Since others may have the same question, I will ask it here rather than PM you.

Referencing the Steel Challenge Application link above, I noticed there is no Single Stack Division. This is very disappointing for us 1911 45acp guys. Is there any chance of a single stack division at this match?

Since you added the 45 ACP part, I take it you would not be happy if 9x19, 38 Super, 40 S&W, and 10mm single stacks would be allowed in Single Stack Division?

Steel Challenge is a 5 round string game. High Capacity guns have absolutely no advantage and in fact the added weight of a high cap pistol is a disadvantage. Most all the winning times/results in Limited and Open are shot with single stacks.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I am just trying to figure out the SCSA divisions. I have no chance of winning money, no matter what the divisions, so that part is not the concern. If I were in contention for prize money, my main concern would be 45 acp competing with 9mm and not the capacity of the magazines like you stated.

Some clubs have Steel Challenge matches that include the Single Stack Division and some don't. The SCSA rule book refers to the USPSA rule book for divisions which makes for more confusion, at least to me. At one time, I thought there was or maybe just a proposed IDPA CDP division within SCSA. That may have been false information I picked up.

Thanks for all the effort you put into the local matches. I will attend this match, it sounds like fun and I will donate to those with winning potential.

I completely understand where you are coming from...

However USPSA Single Stack rules allow 9/40/45. That is where I am coming from.

Long ago I added in IDPA-SSP division to encourage more IDPA shooters to attend and get out of their IDPA sandbox. If there is demand for CDP, I will add it in for 2017.
