Is it possible to get a sticky and migrate the 3049385039485309485 engraving threads to it? Possibly a moderated list with those still in business or positive reviews?

I need to get a couple engraved and all I seem to find are the old threads... I remember a recent thread, but can't find it

Saw some of their work the other day as well, very nice looking, especially the M&P frame...

Ok so...where is colorado gun writes located?

In 2013, he was in Arvada.

I've also used Engrave Cave and Damage Factory for engraving services. You wouldn't be able to tell who did what work, all top notch jobs.

I called AND..................... they don't do it, it's sent out. It's also CNC not laser engraved. The person on the phone said, CNC does and laser engraving doesn't meet NFA guidelines.. OK thanks, i appreciate the info .

Guess i better send my CGW stuff back. OR WRITE ATF for verification http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/smiley_freak.gif

LOL. Yeah it doesn't matter the method - only the results, and an expensive laser can definitely hit .003 in as required.

For what it's worth though, MOST (financially reasonable) laser setups won't cut deep enough. You can ask Troy about it at CGW - he put down some decent cash for his setup, and on many metals it still needs to sit there and run a few hundred times over and over to burn deep enough. I looked into it briefly at one point when I was thinking about getting one. YAG vs. CO2 vs whatever, I don't remember the details because none of them made any financial sense to me, especially when we have several folks in the area who do a great job now. It was seriously a lot of cash to lay out for a nice laser setup. Would have been awesome to have though.

I'm debating getting one of those cheaper setups you see around now - would only be cosmetic but it sounds like a fun toy and the price on those is coming down.

A good laser set up needs to make X amount of passes. It's not a one pass GTG scenario. They also start around $10K ish

I figure I would chime in on this being I own the Engrave-Cave. There are a few different type of lasers that are used for engraving different types of items. We use a fiber for our metal engraving, which does indeed meet the depth requirements of the BATF when we set it up for that type of job. BATF minimum is .003 inch in depth for engravings to be legal for serial #'s and manufacturers. As an 07/02 we do engravings for other manufacturers as well as for individuals that exceed the standards. We actually have 3 different lasers for different types of engravings.
Nothing wrong with CNC, but they don't have the same type of precision as a laser for what we do. CNC can also do things that our laser doesn't do as well. Different technology for sometimes the same type of work or different. I will confirm they are expensive! Lasers are like any other type of tool that you buy in that cost directly relates to quality.

Appreciate the Clarification / info. Add PW to the NFA engraving list.

Same here. The technology fascinates me. I'd love to be able to do neat little cosmetic and personalization projects. Just need to do some more research first and decide if I want to spend the money.

I thought I'd chime in: I dropped by Damage Factory today to get my lower stamped and they were great. It only cost $25 and they did it while I
waited and it looks very professional. I'd strongly consider them if you're in the area.
