Today the US Supreme Court refused to review the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Bonidy v. USPS. In 2010 RMGO assisted the Plaintiff in filing suit against the US Postal Service policy barring firearms from postal property. The Plaintiff lives in Avon, CO and as there is no home mail delivery there, has to go to the Post Office to pick up his mail. He wanted to be able to bring his handgun with him onto the postal property, for his own protection. The trial court decided that the blanket ban on firearms on postal property, including the parking lot, was unconstitutional due to the 2nd Amendment. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that, and said that all government buildings and property can bar all firearms if they so choose, and not violate the 2nd Amendment. While the Supreme Court agreeing to review the case was unlikely, it became even more unlikely after the passing of Justice Scalia. At this point in time, the most realistic path to changing the ban on all firearms on postal property is through Congress.
