I'm a scared!!! Weather guessers are saying 4-8" in the central Denver area, more to the east, oh no, what ever shall we do??? Good thing I'm working a late shift tomorrow. Supposed to clear out by late afternoon/evening.
Post up your totals, sleep well!
I don't know about the rest of you guys but it's crazy warm outside right now. I'm actually a little concerned. Last time it was like this that I can remember and the storm was coming from the gulf area we got smacked pretty good

Good thing I had a decent work day today, because it sounds like the rest of the week is shot.
Just went outside and it is over cast, windy, and about 20 degrees cooler than about an hour ago. Crazy.
Went back out to let the dog back in and now it's just starting to snow.
Meh, I will be at work tomorrow...plenty to do.
Off tomorrow, and going shooting!
Let it snow!
Got my outside work done today. Just in case. Tomorrow I'll work inside where it's about 120 degrees.
Tomorrow's prediction is 3"-5" from the north. No dig deal.
Friday's prediction is 3"-5" from the east. That is a wildcard. Could be 2" or 10".
Got the plow ready either way.

The asphalt should still have a good bit of residual warmth. I bet it doesn't even stick to the road below 6000 feet.

How much you putting down, where do you see it being road wise by 9 a.m.? I'm on the road in another 20 , hopefully southern AZ is warmer ;)

I'll wager my reputation as a weatherman. ;) I.e., zero. Aww heck to make it interesting I'll throw down a box of 9mm.
I haven't looked what the storm will do south of Denver but if you're leaving now you should be good to go. Larkspur would be the only point of contention but the rain hasn't made it there yet and temps are still above freezing.
I don't see any snow yet...
No snow here but pouring good. Had the lights flicker 3 times....power is out across the street.

Didn't start snowing until about 0530 out here. Instant white out with 30+ mph wind.
Lightening as well, have not been able to hear if any thunder, wind is too loud and snow dampens thunder clap.
Power was out when I went thru Hudson.
Heading back home by noon.

I just got this text.
Cdot has issued a traction law for all highways in denver metro. Must have, chains, snow tires or 4wd. First time ever.
Seems a little extreme, but if true is probably due to the ice under the snow.

Hopefully we'll be back up soon. The wind is pretty intense, at one point it was snowing perfectly horizontal.

The neighbor's plum tree was struggling under the weight of the snow sticking to it and the wind....and there are no leaves on it.
It started snowing here just after midnight. We got about 3" on E. Orchard Mesa; snowing lightly now, The quail are calling differently this morning, kinda sounds like WTF?

My commute from Aurora to Golden took about 10 minutes longer than it did yesterday. I'm not sure what that says about Denver drivers when it's NOT a blizzard...
Not too bad, I was following a plow crew for a lot of the way. Basically f*cked west of Denver West exit though. Bunch of cars in the ditch along the service road leading up to the shop. A lot of people are finding out that "all wheel drive" is NOT the same as 4 wheel drive.

Good they were in the ditch and out of your way. I have no sympathy for the folks that drive the yuppie "off road" garbage. If you are serious about living in this state you need at least one high profile REAL 4 wheel drive vehicle. NOT "all wheel, or front wheel " drive, they just don't cut it when the real serious snow fall happens.

Road conditions in C Springs are wet and a little sloppy but the relative lack of traffic makes up for the road conditions themselves. So far, it looks to me like the snow is melting when it hits the pavement so the high winds and lack of visibility are the main hazards. I suspect the roads will NOT be fun tomorrow morning when all this has had a chance to freeze overnight.
Took almost an hour from I-70 and Havana to I-225....semi truck after semi-truck stuck spinning out and now several DPD cars blocking lanes. And no I'm not driving, I'm the passenger:D

Not even a little bit true.
A high clearance 4 wheel drive may not be absolutely necessary for getting around in this crap, but it certainly makes getting around the stalled and stuck vehicles much easier. I used to navigate in storms like this in a Toyota MR2, but the F250 works much better.

Power issues are being attributed to icing on power lines and the strong winds whipping them around.
I had to brush some snow off the satellite dish for only the 2nd time in over 16 years living in this house.
Some of the modern 'all wheel drive' systems are amazing in getting power to even 1 wheel if that's the only one that has traction. Biggest problem going back to when I only had a FWD sedan was ground clearance. Plowed many a street in the neighborhood with that car.
Been without power since 0550. No idea when when are supposed to get it back. I'm staying home today as I don't think my Sentra with its balding front tires wouldn't get too far, yep miss my f150.

Had to shut the wastewater plant down, lost primary and secondary power. Just decided to shut the waterplant down since we keep getting power bumps here and I'd rather not damage any high dollar equipment. Most of the staff either didn't show up, or left a few hours ago.
I had no issue getting into work, took the same amount of time it usually does. I see no reason to go sit at home and burn leave time, I'd rather use it for something good.

Complete falsehood. I spent a winter at Ft Drum, NY with a FWD Dodge Stratus with all season tires and never once spun out or got stuck, even when driving to Lowville. I just made a round trip circuit on the north side of the metro area....I stopped counting (completely) stuck vehicles after about 40 or so, including what looked like large 4wd trucks, etc.....
Roads were either really slick or buried (or both), with total shit visibility......
Also, totally agree with previous comments regarding clearance/traction, as I was able to power around several logjams (otherwise would probably still be stuck behind one now)...

Experience won't do the job when the ground clearance of your vehicle will not allow you to be clear of the snow on the ground, period. I've lived here all my life, driven in all the blizzards since 1967, ONLY vehicle that ever stuck me was front wheel drive car. Learned my lesson, I now have nothing but 4 WD high clearance vehicles.

We've got about 15in on the SW side. Much more than predicted. Went to work at 6am, we closed at noon. First time in 5 years we've closed early for snow.
Drive home on highway not too bad. Bad viability. Its the side streets that are the problem. Lots of people went to work in their cars or smaller SUV's and as soon as they turned onto their side street on the way home, got stuck immediately. Saw dozens of cars stuck 10-20ft off the main 2 lane roads on side streets.
I pulled a few cars out including a all wheel drive Audi Quatro wagon that was running good snows. Normally a great car in the snow, but this deep, heavy stuff was just too much for it. Dude was prepared and already had his own tow strap hooked up. I just pulled in front of him, his buddy hooked me up and he was out in a jiffy. Got to appreciate folks who are prepared. I carry a strap, but hell, that was much easier to use his.

Wife is stuck at DIA (6am outbound flight was cancelled no seats to her destination until Monday, Pena Blvd closed so she's not coming home any time soon….she's stuck!).
Multiple limbs down here both in the street out front and in our back yard, I see firing up the chainsaw in my near future.

Complete falsehood. I spent a winter at Ft Drum, NY with a FWD Dodge Stratus with all season tires and never once spun out or got stuck, even when driving to Lowville. Though having grown up in MI, I do have experience driving in snow. The problem here is all the people who panic because we can go so long in between snowfall here that they forget how to do it.
I understand your point but I don't understand how people forget how to drive. I grew up in Hawaii and I can drive in the snow and ice in either 2WD or 4WD. Frankly, I don't see that driving in the snow is really any worse than driving on dry beach sand (especially with a RWD station wagon!) -- the main trick is keep your momentum going. All this stuff about "so long between snowfalls" and "grew up in the South/tropics" is just cover for making bad decisions.
Malama pono!
I'm hoping there isn't much snow in my driveway when I get home tonight. I don't want to shovel.
Not going to happen. There is an easy 16-18" on the ground here.
I went to the liquor store just for fun, and the roads and visibility were so bad that it wasn't fun at all. I helped dig a car out on the way there, and made $10 pulling a Mitsubishi Montero out (driver was wearing shorts) on the way home. I also got a call from the lady whose driveway I shoveled last time asking me to come back and do it again for more money. It's honestly not worth it, but she's an old lady taking care of an older lady and it's not like I'm doing anything else for the next week.

Mostly the bad decision is not buying decent tires and waiting too long and driving on bald tires. I wouldn't want to be out in a car today, but most people don't have to be. It's just dumb to think that a high clearance vehicle is required to live here. It is purely a convenience.
Forgot to add, how can you possibly be driving around in this low visibility storm, not being able to see other vehicles until they are within feet of you, and still not have your lights on? Absurd!

and in white vehicles. Had several of those on my few block trip.
I just realized that the wind is causing slight continuous air pressure changes inside the house. It makes for a strange uncomfortable feeling. That may be why my dog has been upset all day. Forty miles an hour with fifty plus gusts out here.

starting to see some blue skies up here
went from Elizabeth to S. Parker at 6:30 this morning, not too bad. Finally called it a day at 11:15 and had to come the back roads because 86 was closed east bound from Franktown. That may have been the worst "visibility" drive I've ever done before. Flat out couldn't see a dang thing several times.
No idea where to measure the snow to find an accurate depth. With this wind, there is no place that there will be a level measuring spot. Thankful for the wood burner.

I love snow storms. Not so keen on the wind storms. At work this afternoon, I felt like I was in the Apollo 13 command capsule as things were creaking and banging.
I always suspected it and now I know for sure. The Green Valley Ranch area is full of stupid people who drive shitty vehicles.

I'm the same way. Then I remember I don't get paid unless I actually work, and these storms seem waaaaay less convenient.
I almost delight in the amount of hoopties destroyed. But seriously wtf at CDOT. I leave at 6am, go thru no visibility but decent traction and make it down to highway 6 and simms from frederick in an hour. Coming home. Wet but not icy or snowy highway on i25. Hit highway 7 which is closed for quite a ways north. Get off to take frontage. Instant 8 inch slabs of ice with ruts that made for probably some damage I wouldn't be suprised to my suspension or at least someone elses. Get on frontage. At times down to one lane..... look at i25 where it's closed. Clear and smooth sailing. WTF dumb fuckers.
Down by fed center saw an entrance blocked to a biz with a snapped pine tree. Lights were out making things interesting and idiots panic breaking forcing me to brake put all the snow from being parked an hour in my windshield so I had to pull off at the turn fortunately right next to me to clear it. Coming home on that frontage road I took dacono exit to head east to colorado. 2 lane road with like 8 downed cars, 3 of them in a nice tangle. Road was plowed, except where 2 cars were abandoned in the middle of the lane... so had to go around that....... I swear so many in this state are as bad as the californians now. (I took it in 2wd home the whole way except for having to barrrel thru 14 inches of snow on my street and up my driveway.)
Finally got power back at 4:30. Now I'm starting the dig out.

Three and a half hour commute home. About 40 miles of detours(and drift bashing on old county roads) to bypass closed roads. Counted more than 40 cars "in the ditch" on the interstate and state highway.
The plastic "grill" piece between ground effects and bumper is gone. It wasn't tough enough for the drifts I guess.
Had to park out in the drive way by the highway and walk the last 1/4 mile to the house. Drift is too deep and wide to get through at only 15 mph.

watch the bashing of the drifts. My mother in law was doing that in a small car, and wondered why it was overheating. Snow packed the radiator and fans, nearly killed an engine from heat. (in a blizzard)

I haven't looked what the storm will do south of Denver but if you're leaving now you should be good to go. Larkspur would be the only point of contention but the rain hasn't made it there yet and temps are still above freezing.

What we see here once in a while is much better than what they see every year in Chicago. Trust me.
I made $90 today between pulling people out and shoveling walks. Looks like I've got some more to do tomorrow as well. Good thing I'm in much better shape than that last storm on February 1st.
Back to eating as many carbs as I can.

QQ? In Denver proper, I'm sure you are right, but I25 not too long after the closure to the north was just fine. If it was left a mess and was littered like you see in news photo's it would make sense. What they had setup was far more adverse and I imagine resulted in a few accidents.
Most of the hoopties I saw didnt even make it out of side/small streets. And I've got photo's of a lot of good cars too. So really ties in with my final point that it's a shame that our states drivers seem to be getting worse. (All those Cali/Texans got CO plates now?)
EDIT: And your friend or not, if they actually closed metro area 25, that would have been even more insane. Leaving at 3, they still managed to clear it up just fine, and things melting in the above freezing temp. Maybe between like 6am and noon it shoulda been shut down and could plow in peace, but that didnt happen. So instead of 40min drive taking 1hr10 for no reason, it could have been probably close to a round 01hr45m..

Perhaps this is the time frame the CSP was trying to close it down, but you don't know that, because I didn't mention a time frame. Late afternoon would have been pointless to try and close anything, hell when I got off work at 4, most of the roads were completely clear.
What I think we all can agree on, is there are a bunch of Turds who are new to the area, driving around and making things much worse than they need to be.
Ohmygod, I never realized just how out of shape I was until it came time to shoveling this wet slop.
There just isn't enough Ibuprofen on earth right now!
Our poor neighbor was flying out today- she was going to spend Easter with family. We were watching her cats and her home. She got to DIA at 0730, was stuck both on the plane and then in the terminal all day, and she just got home 20 minutes ago. AWFUL.

Tell me about it. I stuck the plow to the frame. Spent an hour digging and gave up. Called in a bigger plow. The first and second tug I didn't even feel. After that he REALLY rolled back and got a running start. He got me out but this was a worst stuck moment. Spent two more hours plowing. A 12 hour day behind the wheel.
We had 3' drifts today.
Great Ceasar's Ghost!!! Just got home. Getting to and from work was pretty easy, it was everything in between that took it's toll. My younger son very graciously shoveled the drive, stairs and walks for me-good kid, he stays in the will lol.
My older son, his wife and 2yr old were originally going up to the mountains today. They wisely went up yesterday when he got off shift, coming back Friday. Missed all the fun lol. Hope they're having a good time in Breck.

My old Silverado is only 2wd, but it's got new tires and I had the foresight this time to put some weight in it. I have 10 .30cal USGI steel ammo cans full of lead ingots strapped down in the bed right behind the cab, that's about 650lbs. Then I shoveled the bed full of that wet, sloppy shit that was all over my driveway, filled the bed so high I couldn't get any more in and can't see out the back window.
I figure I've got at least 1000 pounds in there now, maybe 1200. 650 lbs of lead and God only knows what all that wet snow weighs. The ol' girl just plows through the snow now like a champ! Didn't have a lick of trouble, and the ol' truck rides like a Cadillac now too!

Ended up pulling a coworker in the parking lot because his hoopty got stuck in the lot entrance partially blocking the way out. Fwd car with summer tires, check. Missing his tow eye, check. Not listening to my instructions and almost hitting parked car, check. Him wanting to be a company VP in 10 years while incapable of functioning in real world, check.
Me wanting to develop a sudden onset of tourets, check.
Most small cars don't really have tow hooks.
I just had to use 4wd to plow through the 2ft diameter ice blocks left by the plow to move out of the way of the wife's car. Having watched all that, of course she tried to gingerly back out into the street and immediately got stuck on the solid ice, between the slope of the driveway and crown of the road. I had to spend a few minutes with a steel shovel (in my pajamas) busting up ice around all the tires to get the car back into the driveway, so I could show her how to properly smash your way into the street. Now I'm just waiting for her to call me again because the entire neighborhood looks like solid ice.
He had the threaded hole in the bumper but not the eye. Luckily another guy had one in his car.
Are those not usually included anymore?
Yep, the streets are covered in ice chunks. That is why I always clear into the street and then make a track for the wifes car with my truck.
I think that is only on the Euro imports, and they don't usually come with the hooks.

we got about 14 inches out at the house. It took me 4 1/2 hours to get home from the shop, most of that spent in traffic until I got fed up and bailed into the ditch to go around the stuck idiots and stalled semis. At that point, I made good progress. Our power went out around 1020 yesterday morning, and cam back on about 0150 this morning. The generator kept the green house warm, and we used the fireplace for the first time in a couple of years. The house stayed around 64 degrees. Now to shovel out...[dig]

I think the North end of town got hit harder.
My work truck is a '14 Tahoe, when I went out this morning the little lip wind deflector on the bottom of the front bumper was laying on the ground under it LOL. My personal is an '03 Tahoe, it sits a little higher, no such issue with it. Neighborhood streets were awful last night.
My 2500 diesel truck did just fine yesterday and today. :shrugs: Even saw my neighbor come home in his RWD 90's chevy silverado 1500. Just kept on the gas and did just fine getting up the street.

My Wife and I stayed on top of shoveling throughout the day. By 1600 I had a bone dry driveway and street in front and sidewalk. Then the grader came trough and pushed boulders of snow in front of my driveway and on my sidewalk. Took another hour to clean up that mess. Never had anyone, ever clear our streets in our neighborhood. Not sure if any other Thornton hoods got the street cleaning treatment or not, but we now have a City Council member living up here, so . . .
My F150 did just fine all day long yesterday. I went to one hospital first thing in the morning, then a second one around 1230. Never even a glimmer of stuckness. Good fun snow!
Drove roughly 6 hrs in the metro yesterday in my AWD Taurus. Thornton to DTC and back, then a backroad trip out to Watkins to recover a stranded friend (since 70 was closed). Car did great.

Big tree in the back yard lost several big branches... we'll see whats left once we trim it if we lose the whole tree.

We just got the Internet back. Power flickered a bit yesterday but never went out for long. Lots of shoveling yesterday and some cleanup today. By noon today, I had the gutter clear enough that the water was pouring down the storm drain. It's going to flood somewhere.
We got a city frontend loader came through the neighborhood this morning about 1AM. I hear the back up alarm as the loader was being driven through the cul-de-sac behind us. This is the second time in 12 years here that the city has cleared snow on our street. I think they did it because it was our trash and recycling pick up today and they wanted to make certain the trucks could get through.
As long as we don't get another 10" on Saturday, I will just whittle away at the rest of the snow in the backyard for the next few days. Everything else is clear and bone dry. It is nice to shovel in a short sleeve shirt, but easier to push and throw the light, fluffy snow we get when the temps are single digits. I guess it is officially Spring!
This photo was taken at 1530 yesterday as the snow was letting up in Centennial. The top of the auger housing on my thrower is 18.5". I had between 15" and 20" on my driveway and sidewalk. I should've plowed twice. That little thrower wasn't meant to tackle 18" of heavy wet snow with an inch of slush under it. It was much better than a shovel but it still kicked my butt.

You should join Nextdoor. They had plow information during the last storm. They don't plow until a certain amount of inches.
I saw the front end loader in Lambertson Lakes yesterday as I was shoveling there. Then a plow went up my street later last night.

Good to know. I am on Nextdoor, my wife used it to piss off a few people who tried to get their 6" ground clearance vehicles through the 18" we had, then got stuck and blocked the street.

My neighborhood was slick and nasty yesterday afternoon, but we got nowhere near what folks in Denver and further North got. My F250 didn't flinch at any of the snow, ice or drifts yesterday ether.
Was too tired to shovel yesterday (had to work until after 11PM Tuesday, back on Wednesday at 6AM) - figured I'd chip the ice off of the sidewalk/drive this afternoon. Got home today and had to shovel for 3 minutes to clear the remnants of the drift out of the drive - but everything else had completely melted already. Damned hard work. <evil grin>

I ruffled some serious feathers in the thread about plowing last storm in February. :D
I think that is only on the Euro imports, and they don't usually come with the hooks.
My Oodi has a tow eye in the jack bundle. I know it's there from the last time I had to change a tire.
However, it's a one owner car.
I was wondering where you've been. I think you should move.
I've quite enjoyed seeing all the pieces of bumper and weather stripping stuck in snow all over town the last few days.

Those are Colorado Spring flowers blooming
I saw a newer Civic for sale on Craigslist once. Looked great from the right side. Not so much on the left side. Apparently it was parked against the curb when one of the really big plow trucks came by and drug it's blade down the entire side of the vehicle.
52 hours now without power. We didnt fire up the generator until this morning. The internet and phones have been down too. We dont have smart phones so we have been isolated. (not that I care). We had to fire up the generator to power the well at least to water the cows. The power company said 305,000 people lost power. Only 3000 people are left without power and we are in that group. Its not a real problem because we are prepared. If anyone is trying to get a hold of me, thats why you cant.
No snow on the ground here now. It all melted about 10 minutes after the storm stopped.
Good to know. I have a handgun class at Pawnee Sportsmen's Center tomorrow. Hoping for limited snow/mud/slush at the pistol bays.

I spent a solid 3.5 hours digging my van out twice. They decided to call a snow day after we were already hours into the work day. I had to borrow this customers snow blower to plow a path to the center of the road and dig out under the van (little under an hour). Then proceed to make it about two blocks where I got stuck in the middle of a residential intersection where I needed to turn left. That took hours to dig out.

Hmmm. Was 80 degrees and windy down here in Puerto Rico. The wind was a little strong at times on the beach blowing a little sand on you but it was bearable.

Good for you! It should be 60ish and sunny Monday and Tuesday, with more snow forecast Tuesday night through Thursday.

That's perfect and I'm so stealing it (unless you mind).
