View Full Version : The Great Kazoo's Leg Battle
Most of us have all met Jim at one point in time. (Nobody usually forgets either! LOL )
I met Jim when I first moved down the block from him in Windsor. He's been a great friend to me and my family. He walked perfectly fine from the looks of it, but apparently had some knee pain. Apparently, it got bad enough to where he had knee replacement surgery about 5 years ago and since then has never walked right .... Constant pain, loss of movement, swelling, loss of sleep, etc, etc.
He had another surgery to correct this but it didn't help. So for the last 5 or so years he's had to live with a leg that has caused him constant pain and in turn, offered him no benefit to life.
After doctors gave him no real solutions, Jim made the hard decision to remove the leg and hopefully have some better quality of life with a prosthetic. I just got word from Stacey(Jim's wife) that he made it through the surgery with no problems and is in the recovery room at this time.
Let's all keep him in our thoughts and prayers while he recovers and hopefully in 6 months he'll be walking around and riding a Harley again!

Thoughts and prayers to Jim and his family. I had an Aunt lose a leg to MRSA, it was a tough long road for her, but she was persistent and determined, and I believe Jim will be the same way! If we can do anything to help, please let us know.

Those were always funny but at the same time kinda symbolic of what he's been through with this whole ordeal.
And if anyone thinks they're going to get a deal from Jim... Think again.. Strict instructions to his wife that NOTHING is to be sold or dealt! LOL.

I ran into them at Elk Bomb last week - she made sure that I, as a forumite, understood that very point. No sales!
Thank you for the update.
I hope Jim has a speedy recovery, after all COAR15 needs their godfather.

I'm surprised I haven't gotten an angry phone call yet... ;).
As I said yesterday, the HoneyBadgers are praying for you, Jim.
Glad to get the good news. Jim is a standup guy, he's angry most of the time but that's what I like. He will give you his shirt off his back if you need it. I will refrain from calling until he's doped up on the good meds.
Thinking of you, wish I could have signed the leg.
I was sworn to secrecy.. I'll see if that's lifted once he comes to and starts sending drug fueled texts...
He told me everything, I was just driving and didn't write it down.

Would it be weird to make some sort of leg memorial? How about we hold a leg funeral? Irving, can you write the eulogy?

I don't think Jim is angry all the time, or he would have died of stress 10 years ago. I think it's just the natural combination of his personality and (necessary) high drug intake that make him seem angry to the casual observer.
I'd let him baby-sit my kid and not worry about any long-term side effects.
As I told him before the surgery, now he can be as tall as he wants to be, and only has to purchase one elevator shoe.
Stacey and his doctors have banned him from all electronics through at least today, which I believe is a wise move on all counts.
Can we change his title to stumpy?
How about Eileen?

What are the odds that his prosthetic will be Dillon blue?
Hope you heal up quick.
Oh, and you should get a wooden leg. Like a pirate. That would be awesome.
When can I sign his prosthetic? Let's have a party! [Beer]
Not to minimize the loss but such things tend to focus you on the good people and important experiences in life. I live with non stop pain all day, every day. While the reality is a bummer, what we have left is to make the best of it, and enjoy it, or else. The alternative isn't very pretty.
Best wishes to Jim. Hang in there, sir, it will get better.
Get well soon Jim. I hope the pain is minimal and short lived.

In a society where too many people just keep having the doctors tinker with their ailments and get them hooked on painkillers, you step up and eliminate the problem. I gotta say, that is simply BAD ASS!!!!!!!! Best in your rehab and recovery. Cheers to a future of pain free living!
So, serious question. Did they let you keep the leg, and if so, what do you want for it?
just kidding, hang in there bud. I hope this is the beginning of the end of the pain for you.
While The Great Kazzo appreciates all the kind jesters and well wishes we are going to close this thread to enable him and his family some privacy. We all know how much he means to us and that we will be there whenever the time comes that he needs us.
Get well quick buddy!
