I like how the article is about marijuana but the first picture is of a gun.
SIG P320. Obviously the gun was instrumental in the extraction of hash oil for interstate distribution. That is why it had a light mounted.

When it counts
If I had an illegal grow/hash oil op in Pueblo, I'd have a lot more than is in those pics. But that's none of my business...
Damn, I'm right around the corner and did not smell a thing...
Cooking hash oil is a little more than "inherently dangerous". [Shake] We had an in home explosion, in one of the neighborhoods, due to cooking hash oil.
The people I see doing it look to have an IQ of room temperature. Just who I want playing with multiple volatile chemicals.
There's a home in the 1400 block of S. Logan St. in Denver that "blowed up real good" a few months ago. Moron was lucky to get out uninjured, blew the brick facade off the front of the house, most of the windows and both doors blown out. The legal businesses pour tens of thousands into the proper extraction equipment but any idiot can buy butane and try it themselves LOL.
The apartment building on South Federal that caught on fire this week that had people jumping out the windows and ending up in the hospital is reported to have been related to hash oil.

Pressing butane through weed and than boiling what comes out. What could possibly go wrong. DERP! Absolutely something you don't want to do indoors. But they don't call it dope for nothin.

OMG THEY'VE GOT EXPOSED WIRING IN THEIR BASEMENT!
There have been many many many home explosions/apartment fires contributed to the attempt of extracting 'oil' from MJ since it became legal. So many fires and explosions.. yep.. let's be stupid colorado. It's fucking chemistry, and your stove is not the proper fucking place.

Isn't growing considered a retail/light industrial use? How are they going to get permits to legally grow in a residential building?
From what I have seen/heard large scale growing ruins a house pretty quickly.

This is how they are doing it. Each person can grow X amount of plants. There is nothing saying 11-12 people can't reside in these small houses. The utility companies get requests for upgraded electrical services all the time, some of these homes are grow homes.
Not everyone does this with upgraded electrical services. I have one, due to my welding machine and the other 5 appliances that require 220V.

We had a "Combest" on the bus into MCRD San Deigo. I think they put the new DIs on intake because that Sgt could not stop laughing.

They don't. It's a free for all. Reason #1 why rentals and house prices are as high as they are. If one extracts X oil they triple their investment. Outside the whole OOPS i blewed up the house. The risk is worth it over cooking meth.
The house across the street from us was rented by some people from out of state for a large scale grow operation. The sheriff actually stopped by to ask if we'd seen anything strange, that explained why we though we had a skunk living somewhere near the house. The deputy called back a few weeks later and said they had finally been able to expect the house and that it was LARGE by most home grow operations but that they were legal. He did say that the house would probably have to be gutted to get the smell out of it. :)

Well............ i'd rather have a few grow houses, than some meth heads. Stoners are easy to "convince" they need to keep a low profile . Tweakers, it takes a few lessons before they get the hint and move. Or SWAT pays them a visit.
The modus operandi is for renters to bring in Cubans from the Miami area to be the "caretakers" of the rental property being used as a grow location. A considerable amount of the pot is headed out of state, or so the story goes.
Sometimes something goes wrong and the house burns down, whoops. Bad news for the property owner.

Renters move in, Turn as much space into a grow house. The humidity, heat and stench pretty much destroys the house. They split leaving the property owner with a big mess.
An interesting read is about all the houses ruined in Humbolt County California by growers.

So I went over to help the new owners of my house in a very nice neighborhood in northeast COS bring up the sprinkler system. And yeah, the neighbors house now has 3 central air compressors in the yard, it's now a grow house. I let the property owner know. He called the cops and all, and yeah, its the Miami cartel that rented it and are in the process of trashing the place of course.

Use the same ice cream truck and ice cream song, add some other hot foods and soon everybody will be waiting for you about 5:30 or so. [panic]

I think the easy way to find them is just look at the electric bill records. It is all done by the internet over the power lines. I imagine all the Apache gun ships can see whats see what's happening too.
I think the brits have been using thermal to spot the grow houses. I wonder if Pueblo has started to do the same. It's interesting how this is only going on in Pueblo. Personally, I'm pleased. These are freaking rental houses these shit heads are destroying. I know I'll rub some stoners the wrong way here... They're just plants man! Lighten up and smoke a bong already! Yeah, well in the two years that house is rented it's going to be fucked to high heaven and the homeowners will have lost their entire investment.
Being in Denver on 4/20 was not without it's issues. Probably two dozen people getting baked in the hotel and pregnant wife none too happy about being forced to breath their bullshit. Might as well be hot boxing in a bus. I've got no issue with people smoking at home. I just don't understand why society now generally wholly believes you have a right to avoid secondhand cigarette smoke even in public places, ESPECIALLY when pregnant, but on the flip side...
If you don't want to breath in all of the stoners crap in even semi-private (hotels, common areas of apts, etc.) well, that's not the same thing. Up and MOVE if you don't like it. Stoners argue it's totally harmless to children and babies, you know, besides the motivation thing, decrease performance, schizophrenia activation with those with genetic susceptibilities, etc. etc. totally harmless. But it's not our choice what we don't want to breathe.

Some friends of mine had their Conifer home destroyed, $150,000 in damages. My friend is a Naval Captain and stationed in Japan with his family at the time. Pot growers set up a hydroponics grow lab and the water line froze when the power was off resulting in the whole house being flooded. These fine people were found by the management company, and it was a complete disaster. His wife and kids ended up coming back early to fix the house; what a huge mess. Sad thing is that my ex and I offered to take care if it for them, but they didn't want us bothered with it. The lease on my rental property stipulates that it will not be grown; if I found out that is being grown, the lease is forfeit and I will be bringing in the police immediately.
I had a guy try to rent one of my rental units over the phone without seeing it in person. Then when he came to look at it, two guys went in to look at it while their women stayed in the car. Wouldn't even give them an app.
My wife is hot to trot to get into the pot market to grab a share of some of all that money. She wants to have a 4/20 friendly rental and charge more for the rent. She gets that idea from seeing hotels and bed and breakfasts making tons of cash when before they were only mediocre businesses. I just can't get through to her that a 4/20 friendly rental house is not a good idea and she will not get the results she thinks she will. Good thing we don't yet have a rental to find out with.

Oh, that sounds like a disaster!!! ...I don't see that ending well.
She accuses me of being a negative, pot hater, but I just can't convince her that the examples she's comparing to are not comparable, and that people are just turning rentals into grow houses that completely destroy the property.

I've had my rental trashed a couple times in the 10 years I've been doing it. Being lenient does usually go well regardless of who they are; the more protections and restrictions on your investment the better. It has nothing to do whether you agree or don't agree with smoking weed. I would just tell her to read up on the horror stories of renting. My parents had their condo in Carbondale trashed by drug users who were sacrificing animals in the basement. All kinds of strange shit can happen.

If you did it as a Nightly / weekly (vacation) rental with an extremely high damage deposit. I believe you'd do rather well. We're talking the over 40-50 crowd.

You know you're always wrong, don't you? Always. It's that 2-point font clause on your marriage certificate that you never looked at.
Question: If she meant investing for short term rentals like Air B&B, what was the linkage to 4/20 and recreational marijuana all about? Catering to out-of-state tourists who just want to come and get high for a week? I can see that being a cash cow for now but realize you'll have to hire cleaning services and what not for short-term rentals. Essentially, you're getting into the boutique hotel business if that's what you're doing -- good money to be made if you know what you're doing, a lot of pain if you don't.
I just got done being a landlord and don't want to go back.

I thought legalization wasn't supposed to bring in any outside criminal element.
The bust was the 11th of an illegal residential marijuana grow in the county since March 30. Ten of those busts have come at homes in Pueblo West and one at a residence in the southern part of the county. Most of the people involved in the grows are originally from Florida and had relocated here recently.

They're only outside criminal elements IF they failed to change their DL.

So this means the Seminole are responsible for residential grow operations in Colorado? I thought many of them went to Oklahoma after that evil man on the $20 bill made them walk.

It's quite obvious that Pueblo just has decent inventory of rental properties at a good price with landlords desperate to get a tenant of any kind. If you think all these landlords don't know what their getting into then I think you're a bit naive.
Soon it will be other towns and cities with a similar inventory and price. They'll drive them out to the border towns. Doesn't matter where you grow.

They do these stings every time there's an event that brings out of towners in. In every 'group' there's a % of people that typically mimics the general population as a whole. IOW there's likely a similar % of pedophiles, gays and lesbians, etc at your church as compared to your work as compared to walking the mall.
