Alright so I'm doing a research paper for my English class and my topic is why more women are owning firearms. Part of the process is that I have to conduct an interview, and since my work schedule/general tendency to avoid human contact precludes me from being able to find someone in person, I figured maybe you folks could help me out. I just need one lady to respond, and I know there are many who post here and a lot of you guys have wives/girlfiends/friends that carry so if anyone is interested, just shoot me a PM. I'll post the questions so you know exactly what you're getting into, and if you don't feel comfortable answering any I totally understand, but for obvious reasons I need someone who will be honest and open. Your name won't be on this so you can remain totally anonymous. Without further ado, here are the questions:

(sorry if I seem a little rambly...sleep is a foreign concept at this point).

1. What is your age?

2. What is your gender? (female, duh).

3. What is your social standing?

4. Why would you be considered an expert/knowledgeable on this subject?

5. What is the main reason that you decided to purchase and/or carry a firearm?

6. What purpose do you most often use your firearm(s) for? (Hunting, personal protection, sport shooting, recreation, etc...)

7. Are you the sole owner of a firearm in your home?

8. Do you have children? If so, did this influence your decision to own a firearm?

9. Have you ever had to use a firearm in a defensive situation?

10. Do you have anything else you would like to add on the subject?

Feel free to PM me with any questions, or with your answers should you choose to complete the interview. I may have some follow up questions depending on your answers, but I'll try not to take up too much of your time. Once again, I will maintain complete anonymity, and can send you a final copy of the paper if you want.

Thanks everyone!

I'll respond to your questions in a PM, Guylee...but your questions are a bit odd.

What does #3 have to do with being a gun owner? And by "social standing", what exactly are you asking? I'm not sure I know what you're seeking.

Just admit you are in the 1%. You know that we know.

The Grey, my guess on #3 is that he's trying to get data to verify or negate myths about gun ownership being a symptom of either being "privileged" (whatever the hell that means) or redneck simpletons. If that's the case, he probably also ought to have highest level of schooling completed. Sawin's answer regarding marital status might also be valid if "social status" is the new PC term.

Sawin's female? [Shock] [facepalm]

I guess you passed right over the part where he said his wife answered the questions for you?

Somehow, I've missed these myths- both "privileged" and "redneck."

And I never considered "marital status" as "social status." Huh.

If you "ain't" privileged, you might be a redneck.[Flower]

Evidently so.

Thanks for the responses folks. #3 is one of the standard questions that everyone was required to ask, but upon further perusal I've decided it's irrelevant and stupid. Anyways, you guys are the best!

Guylee, Just saw this or I would've responded- good subject for a school paper. I'm interested to hear what you discovered (if your paper is finished). Why are more women buying guns, and what other resources did you pull information from for fresh data? Any patterns related to age, marital status, ethnicity, political affiliation, etc? Were you looking at women in CO or the US or worldwide? Handguns or rifles, training or simply ownership? What did you find?
