Clean your ccw peice even if it looks clean. Took my daily carry hand gun out over the weekend, pulled the trigger and got a click instead of a bang. Looked it over all looks good shot some rounds and kept getting light strikes. Took the whole gun down at the bench and found a peice of pocket lint in the main spring, cleaned it all up and back to normal. It would of really sucked or cost my life if I would of needed it to go bang. Just a reminder to keep a routine cleaning secudal for your ccw peice.

Good reminder! Even the most robust/reliable of firearms can have issues if foreign obstruction occurs. May I ask what your carry piece is (not really relevant just curious)?

I carry a naa pug 22mag mon-fri, and a s&w sheild weekends and after work. The naa pug was the one that had the issues.

See. This is why I carry a Glock. You never have to clean them.

Shoot more often.

Currently we are on quarterly requals, which means that most only shoot four times each year. Some clean after each range session, some never clean their issued. Its just how it is. I always looked forward to the first round of a requal when right after the first round was fired by everyone on the line, a small cloud of lint and dust would rise just about head height along the line. Working as an RSO gave me a good view of the lint cloud.

Shooting more frequently will give you more reason to clean and clear the lint and dust from your carry.

Be safe.

Good post.

I don't get to shoot nearly as often as I'd like every couple months if I'm lucky, plus quals. I do inspect my CCW pistol at least once a week, it's crazy how much crap gets trapped in the nooks and crannies of a Glock.

I wish I could get out and shoot more often, I make sure to run a mag and cylinder out of my carry guns every range trip then clean them. For the first three to four years I carried I would clean my ccw guns every two weeks but for the last few years I have slacked off.

I don't think I've gone longer than 3 weeks without shooting so at the minimum that's how often I clean. Otherwise I clean after every range session-a habit instilled in me a looong time ago by a very wise and experienced old head. The stainless revolvers take a bit more of a scrubbing but the Defender is pretty quick to clean-I don't have to go crazy as it's rare I shoot more than 100 rounds through it at one session. Same with the M&P.

Little late to the party. However a quality cover from HBartactical.com might fix that problem. [LOL]

BUT... on a serious note. My nephew was saying my dad's revolver was broke and they were going to have a shop look at it. Opened it up, nothing but lint. 20min cleaning , back in service.

This is no joke. A couple years ago I went to the range, totally normal trip. I drew my CCW (Glock 19), aimed, pulled the trigger, and *click*. Ejected the round, pulled the trigger again, and *click*
Turns out I had some gunk that had collected in firing pin channel which was slowing down the striker and giving me light primer strikes. Took the slide apart, a couple blasts of compressed air, followed by some solvent, a pipe cleaner, and more compressed air and I was back in business. But if I had needed to to use it in a real situation... I would have been in deep you know what [pileoshit]

I had a few light primer strikes at my last match. I even cleaned my gun after initially reading this thread.

Hammer fire FTW.

My Sig always goes bang even after months of pocket lint.

About a month ago I had the same issue. I have carried my NAA 22 mag for a couple years. I drew it to scare off a dog chasing my turkeys and the first shot was a click. The second shot went off and scared the dog off. The click did make my heart stop for a moment, thinking of all the time I have carried it and what could have happened.

Personally, I'd never trust any rim fire round to reliably go off when I need it.

The best gun in a gunfight is the one you have. I carry a Kahr CW9 or a FNS9, but this is almost always in my pocket. There are a lot of times I can not carry a full size, but the NAA is better than nothing. I mostly carry it for snakes, with one or two rounds of snake shot in it.

I try to at least blow my 1911 out with the air compressor once a month, but I don't carry that often anyway. Always have a pistol handy, but not necessarily wearing it. I don't go out in public much either.

A while ago I just happened to take a mag apart and noticed the spring was twisted and didn't think anything of it.

Today at a match it caused issues. I was using this particular mag as a Barney mag and it kept jamming when I tried to load a round in the chamber. After shaking out 4-5 live rounds I switched to another mag and moved on. After inspection I found that the spring tension was reduced enough that when each round is pushed forward, the rim of the case was getting stuck on the lip of the mag. It brought me to a stop and would have been an issue I wouldn't have expected and would have been unable to deal with in any kind of event. This could have been the mag I was carrying for my extra, but I'm not sure. It's disassembled now. Just another PSA.
