View Full Version : Being lazy lost me a part

So, went to install a dust cover this evening and decided that rather than pull the handguard and barrel nut I would just slip it all together and use some tweezers to install the little clip on the rod.

It was all fun and games right up to the point where the little clip shot off across the room. I didn't even bother to try to look for it.

Guess once I round up a replacement clip I won't be lazy and I'll just pull everything apart.

That'll teach me.

Thanks. I'm sure I can pick up a handful of them at the Ace Hardware by my house. If not, I'll shoot you a text.

You can do it this way, but you need a very specific profile on the needle nose pliars to get that damn c-clip back on. Swing it by Bowers and we can slap on a c-clip for you.

They are air-soluble, by the way. You shoot it in the air and it will disappear before ever hitting the ground.

Better than bouncing a C-clip off the white part of your eye. That HURTS!

A reason why I have 10 or so in the parts box. All it took is once and I bought in bulk. [Beer]

This or "Damnit Clips"...

I keep a handful of them because they suck.

I usually don't struggle with the little suckers. I typically install it onto the rod and then assemble everything onto the upper before the barrel or handguard ever get installed.

It's harder when you do it backwards, but you get good at it after a couple dozen. No need to take the whole upper apart over a c-clip.

I'm sure you've seen a Geissele hand guard or two. The little anti rotation ear leaves me a space about an eighth of an inch wide to try to put that sucker in. Almost had it too.

Crisis averted. Ace Hardware had some in stock. Bought ten of them. Pulled the handguard off and had plenty of room to snap the little bastard in place.
