Anybody know where to look for wooden slingshots? I want to get one for my kid and think the wrist rockets are a bit much for a first slingshot.

Thanks,

They aren't. I recently bought a "wrist rocket" from the Army Navy Surplus store on 76th and Pecos and I have a hard time shooting anything even 30 yards (I measured). It is total crap and I'm very disappointed. It only cost me like $5 so if you stick in that price range, the band it comes with is nearly guaranteed to be total crap and hardly work.

We've always made them out of a tree branch and an old tire. It's a neat father-son thing to do, making them.

take him camping, buy some rubber cord and a piece of 1/8" leather. make your own.

Actually, it's a she. My daughter wants one. She also wants a bow and arrows. I've been utilizing the time-honored tradition of wait-and-see to determine if she REALLY wants these things. It usually works, too. Many things are a spur of the moment impulse, but if she wants it over a period of time then I know it's something to take seriously. She's been bugging me about a slingshot for over six months - not every day, just every once in a while she reminds me that she is still interested.

There is a scuba shop not far from me. I may have to go in there and see what they have for the bands.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Have you checked out Wally World? I know they carry the Wrist Rockets and figuring that since they are Wally World they probably carry the cheap wood ones too.

You can get the medical elastic bands that they use from Home Depot too.

If you want a wooden one, contact this guy.
