View Full Version : Predictions for this weekend snow?
Forecasts are all over the place still....
So what is your prediction for the snowfall this weekend. Snowpocalypse, or a light dusting, or somewhere in-between?
Feel free to include inches of snow for tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday.
If there are a lot of power outages I'll be called into work, so I'm hopping it's not going to snow that much.

I'm hoping they're wrong about this one. They got the last one right so odds of 2 in a row? I'm guessing at night it'll be snow. Day will be rain/sleet and sloppy.
It'll be wet and nasty but nothing that will majorly affect daily life, methinks. Doesn't really matter though...I have to go to work regardless.

I don't think we'll get snow up here.
I predict a massive hype storm from the media, with intermittent deluges of hysteria, and strong gusts of hyperbole.
FFS, it's a spring storm in Colorado....[facepalm]
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE.
Oddly enough, there was quite a line at the package store today. Seems most folks are planning to hole up for the weekend.

The polar vortex will certainly bring snow which is an obvious sign of global warming. Climate change. Global climate disruption. Cats and dogs living together. Whatever happens it is a sign of the end times.
50% chance that it will snow.
50% chance that it won't snow.
I'm going with sunny and 72 degrees all weekend. How could it not be with global warming?
Seriously, my guess is about fourteen inches of snow but very little accumulation in the north area where I live.
If there are a lot of power outages I'll be called into work, so I'm hopping it's not going to snow that much.
I'm looking forward to a day off, so I welcome some snow. Guy from Fox this morning said that so far the storm was doing exactly what they thought it would, at exactly the time they thought it would, which never happens. He said the difference between heavy rain and heavy snow will only be a matter of a few degrees. I don't really care which way it goes, as long as I get a day or two off work. :)
There's an outside that has WEATHER?

I figure it'll be wet and nasty for about 1-2 inches then melt off by Sunday afternoon. I am utterly amazed at how ransacked King Soopers was and the lines to check out. All I wanted was a steak to toss on the grill tonight. People are like in freaking DC, running in to stock up because we have snow predicted. WTF ...

Leave it to foxtrot to slip Freddy Mercury into a thread about winter weather. Lol.

I mowed the lawn and spread a lot of fertilizer yesterday so there'd better be some liquid from above or I'll be disappointed.

Snow reports? Probably a couple inches in Castle Rock. Anyone been on the roads?
There a little slick in Aurora, hope it stops soon... Drive slower than normal and it's fine.
What time did it start? Just got up, have about an inch so far, must be heavy as the tree branches are sagging, I'm in Centennial hear University Blvd. and Arapahoe Rd. Hope it doesn't get bad, supposed to get a new-to-me blaster and the seller lives in the Springs and is driving up to Littleton. Also hope the store opens for the transfer, said they might not depending on how much snow there is.

Yeah I'm supposed to go north for a deal. Going to take a bit longer than expected.
no snow yet in Ft. Fun, but the trophy wife said that King Soopers was INSANE yesterday. So, when they call for snow, and relatively high temps, doesn't anyone put these two things in perspective? I mean, maybe tonight, but how much snow should I expect at 39 degrees?

About 10" up here at my place and it's coming down pretty good. Even at this rate, I doubt we'll get the 2-4 footer that they were threatening. It's heavy and sloppy though. I'd rather have a few feet of light fluffy stuff than a foot of heavy muck. It's fun running around in the Heep with 2 feet of fluffy snow.

Just enough that my appointment for this morning got canceled.

Atmospheric. Cleaned my dish twice to be sure, but no signal all morning. DirecTV. Watched some news via the antenna, no big deal.
Just went out for the hourly knock-the-slush-off-the-tree's. Pretty heavy stuff on the plants but still not sticking to concrete/asphalt here.
Lost a branch on a pear tree . . . sucks. Happened overnight. Got the rest knocked off pretty good, so that should be the extent of it. About 6 - 8 inches where I'm at. Really wet/heavy stuff.
pretty crappy here out east, the local roads are covered in drifts, wind blowing pretty good. Highway cams show 70 is pretty clear, hope so for the required work drive tonite.
Ground blizzard in nw Colo. Springs. Five inches of wet snow 35 mph wind. I wanted to go to the pueblo tanner show, but no way.

Stinging little balls of ice falling now. Effing sucks. 35 degrees.
Nothing of significance here currently. Just wind and cold for now.
Left the house about 8:30, drove up to have coffee with a friend-she's a good friend lol. Near Wash Park, as I got closer into Denver the weather was better than my 'hood. Stopped at the bank, did some more running around. The roads weren't bad at all. When I got home a neighbor had been down the sidewalk with his snowblower, I took care of the steps and driveway. Heavy but cleared off. Coming down good but seems to melt right away on the street, walk and stairs.
TV reception (Direct) is back, looks like a nice day in Chicago-think I'll watch the Rockies for a bit. Stay warm everybody.

Came up from Centennial about 8:00 this morning. Slush on the road, luckily light traffic. As usual, the weather changed in Boulder Canyon, at Boulder Falls. Heavy accumulation. Did CDOT take a holiday? 4"+ on the road. At the Narrows all 2wds lost it, as usual. Obstacle course ensued. There was a brand new Mustang trying but he was all but off the road. So far, 3' average with 4'+ in some areas. Just got done plowing some neighbors and had to roll up the window because the drifts were falling into the cab. Still coming down. I might take a snow day tomorrow.

SW part of Colorado Springs, maybe 3". Tomorrow might be a different story.
So Lakewood and Denver are not too bad but it's really starting to mount on the roads. Aurora has more snow on the roads and is slower than Lakewood or Denver. I still made it home in 30 min but everyone else on the roads right now are doing maybe 20-25 in a 45. I was still able to do the speed limit.

Well shit-got home from shoveling at my son's home in Parker only to discover a huge limb broken off a tree in the backyard. In the front a strip of siding under a gutter was bent away from the house and a large juniper that goes up to the second story was decimated.
Called insurance and started the claim.
Third clearing for me. Probably 14-15" of climate change so far.
I didn't get out till mid day today so no use trying the snowblower on this wet slush.
Of course, the lazy neighbor caused the water to pool in my driveway.
Ran the truck up and down the gutter and still had to hand shovel blockages 6 houses down and back up to my place.
I know it's gonna melt eventually but I hate having the bottom of my driveway under water/ice.
^^^ your neighbor sounds like mine they never shovel the drive or sidewalk, they leave the trash can outside, and don't forget the tree they have had on the side of the house since xmas.
^^ Yea, they're so progressive, they think the gov and/or the neighbors should do it for them.

News reported 47" here...whatever it was, it was a lot of snow. The first picture is my Cummins Dually flatbed. The second is a Yukon, Trans Am, and an old GMC truck in the picture by the garage. The third of the plow was the morning after I plowed 18" the night before. The last is my driveway up to the road the morning after it was plowed. Because of the steep angle of my roof, all the snow blows on to my front and back deck which are 8x37 and 16x37; I had to shovel double the snow fall from those; it was a busy couple days.

In my experience, storms like these don't create many accidents. Reason being, they come in with enough notice that people stay home unless they have to go out. The storms that roll in mid workday and trap all the bad drivers out are the ones that create havoc.
My cousin sent a couple photos taken yesterday at my cabin off the Peak-to-Peak north of Ward. The river was opening up when it dumped a good 3 ft. of snow. The snow causes the river to rise which accelerates the melt of the river ice.
Glad I'm not over there now. Too much work chaining the plow and running the snowblower. I'll let Mr. Sun take care of it in his own time.
It isn't over yet. Here in the Grand Valley there's no snow on the ground but it is lightly raining and snowing. It's great to have the additional snowpack, less pressure on the farmers.

When fighting with the snow blower, keep in mind that said snowblower will try to win at all costs. Also impellers take a second to loose momentum.

Yeah. It was sitting right next to me when I maxxed out the dumb-o-meter.. ;p
Surgery Wednesday. Whee.
Damn! Good luck with the surgery. I feel fortunate I only have to contend with an insurance claim.

Ouch, good luck with recovery
I saw online that highest reported totals were in Coal Creek Canyon, coming in with a whopping 51"

As far as my own mishaps.... I went backcountry skiing up on Cameron Pass, west of Ft. Collins to catch some fresh powder. Got caught in a whiteout coming down off the summit and this happened...

Luckily, the 2 humans and 1 dog were all uninjured and even the Wrangler (not mine!) is unscathed aside from a demolished side mirror. The expensive touring skis that were in the roof rack... different story entirely :(

I hope you didn't take offense, I just had too. We have all done stupid stuff. I hope you recover quickly.
Looks like this was an exciting storm for a lot of members. Hope everyone gets back to normal asap.

Yup, up here we call that a dusting. [LOL]
If Denver got what we got in Coal Creek, they would be shut down for a week.
Asmo, heal quickly.

We lost power for 40 hours last storm, just two 2 hour failures this time. At least 2.5 feet outside Boulder.
If they say there is a big storm coming and I can comfortably wear my flip flops the day before, its going to be a good one...

Excel?

Excel?
Yup.
My main grip about them last time was not that the power went out- I understand such things happen in big storms, but that they could not not even attempt to give me a forecast on restoration. If its going to be 6 hours, we will wait it out. if its going to be 2 days, I will take alternative actions.
I bought a 7KW Honda Inverter home from work last Friday, but did not need it.

No offense taken at all. I was being a dumb ass and ignored every opportunity to do the correct thing.
Thank you all for all the well wishes. Hurts like hell, but that's how the learning happens. ;)
I type all day, so it's going to be a bit weird for awhile. But my company is being awesome and we will make due.
The only thing that saved me from loosing the whole finger (getting lopped off) was the big heavy glove I was wearing. No real damage to the glove other than its a different color now. ;p

IIRC Joe Sakic did something like this too years back, and I believe he had already injured his back that season.
Yup.

I had now power for three days in the 2003 storm. Excel was useless. United has never let me down.

I too have experienced the downside of "stupid should be painful". Hope you heal up soon!
Two more inches of snow when I woke up this morning and it is snowing hard again; couple more inches so far this afternoon.
