OOPS! I accidentally bought some Federal small pistol MAGNUM primers instead of MATCH primers. They are the same diameter, but the Federal web site says they are for high velocity. I am loading .40 cal. light loads for match shooting. Is there really a difference?[Help]

Is there really a difference?[Help]The Magnum primers will ignite a little bit hotter than the non-Magnum. You may experience a slight increase in velocity (approximately 10 fps more) but they are fine to use when loading for light 40 loads.

I kinda figured as much, but wanted to ask around to be sure. Thanks.

I have found that the magnum primers equal to going up in your powder drop 0.1 grain. I am using Clays powder so that might be different with other powders. With the same powder drop, OAL, bullet and all of that except for comparing a standard primer to a magnum I usually see a bullet velocity increase of about 10 - 20fps.
