View Full Version : Sig MPX SBR (Factory)

I was looking into a Sig MPX factory SBR (collapsible stock) recently, and was curious if anyone here had one and can weigh in on how they like it....as well as how hard they are to find.....
Backround: I got my mitts on one today (in stock, in store) and first impression was hugely positive, but wanted to get perspective from a current owner if possible, as well as general availability - in other words, are they easy to find or are they unicorns? (I havent seen any in stock prior to today, but that doesn't count for much...)
Thanks!

I have an MPX gen 1.
Paperwork is in process.
I like mine. I used it in a local competition and it shot well. Dad is running it in competitions now. I have had no problems whatsoever with it...that being said they seem to be hit and miss. They have already started selling a gen 2 version. Some parts are not interchangeable. There have been feeding issues, fit and finish issues...mags not interchangeable....
Again...I like mine. Had no troubles at all. But there are a number of others that have had trouble.

Sig in general has been very hit or miss with their rifles over the past several years (more misses then hit's) I fell victim to their 556xi-R so won't be buying any more products from them anytime soon.
All though I was intrigued by the MPX, $70 mags turned me right off. I would suggest looking at a CZ Scorpion at half the price.
.
No first hand experience but the complaints of gas in the face when running suppressed and expensive mags made me look into the CZ Evo. It was a toss up for awhile but the Evo is the road I'm going to venture down.
I have an SBR and have had no issues, although not an SBR from the factory. I don't get any gas in the face when using a can at all, zero. The mags are pricey but worth the fun, I think. From what I've seen the mags are actually compatible between gen 1 and 2. I've tried both in my gen 1 with no issues, I think it's that the gen 2 rifle won't hold old gen 1 mags.

Not to derail your thread but I was in the same boat when I looking for a 'factory' 9mm SBR carbine. I held the MPX and Scorpion and liked them both. After researching both, I bought the Scorpion. I just couldn't justify the price of the MPX with the so so reviews on it. I had not read anything bad about the scorpions plus the mags were so much cheaper for the scorpions ($17 MSRP) vs MPX ($50). Mags were a little hard to come at first but they are easily found now. I am not sure if the MPX mags are hard to come by still.
I am into my Scorpion for $1350+/- and that includes factory folding stock and two Form 1 stamps; suppressor and SBR. For the price of the scorpion at full retail, plus the factory stock and tax stamp, you are into for the price of (1) MPX pistol. Just throwing it out there for consideration.
Here is what it looks like currently.

I was one of the lucky ones that got it directly from CZ Custom Shop. I had it in my cart and when I went to hit "order submit" it said OOS. I immediately called and the guy I spoke said he saved an extra just in case there was a problem and shipped it to me. I was really lucky but they are popping up more and more.
Don't mean to derail the thread...

Barfcom and CZ forums have Scorpion threads where people update availability. Looks like they are sending out 2 versions. Old with the hook, and new with the magnet.

Thanks for all the input, this was really helpful!
Just to throw this in, the one I was looking at yesterday was a Gen2, and priced around $1650, if I remember correctly.....

There was a period they were hard to come by but they are back in stock now. I've seen several over the past few weeks.

Just throwing it out there as an option. For the price of that MPX, you could have a scorpion, stock, stamp and have almost enough to get a nice can for it.

Of course you could purchase a pistol now and add a stock after your form 1 clears, putting the thing in your hands now. The stocks are readily available with a little searching and ridiculously easy to attach. Total price looks to be about the same. Either way, if you want the MPX I'd say go for it.
On the other hand, I think the new 2016 CZ Scorpions are about to hit the market. Also I thought I heard/read somewhere that they'd be 922r compliant (might just be the rifles).
"
2016 models now feature 1/2×28 threads hidden underneath the factory flash-hider, meaning users can fit either 1/2×28 or 18×1 accessories to the muzzle. Also added is a QD sling swivel pocket integrated into the rear sling attachment point."

Reviving this thread instead of starting a new one...
Has anybody tried the new MPX-k yet? Was looking at one today (still procrastinating on this decision), and while it's super compact, looks great, and felt good in the hand, the concern is that there may just not be enough grip space on the front rail....

Any first hand experience with the shorter model?

Unfortunately not...but personally I grip the magwel and not the forearm on mine. I wanted the K style and may yet end up with that length but my direction has changed since I got mine. Really I want an MP5k at this point. I like the Sig but prefer the HK to it.

Looks like the finger stop can be slid out, or completely removed. I bet someone could make you a finger stop with an extended arm on it so it actually rests just past the edge of the hand guard.
I wonder if I can just get the k style upper.
Its just a barrel change and a float tube change.

The front portion of the upper is shorter, it slides off when the upper is broken down. It's piston so no tube. Also I want a separate upper :)

There are a mess of people over on the Sig forum that have been waiting for the K...either as a complete upper or just the barrel and forearm. Nothing has been released by Sig to date. No timeframe either.

Correct, the finger stop is just a keymod mount. There was one more slot forward, but I didn't feel right asking them to move it if I wasn't ready to make the purchase right then.
As for the extended stop, I've got a couple bars of 6061 left over from an old project and could always mill something up, but have never been a fan of anything sticking out past the end of the handguard (other than barrel/supressor) - even having my surefire sticking out an inch past the rail bugs me a little...

The shop I was in had 5 of the K models in stock, and mentioned that while the only difference was the barrel and tube/handguard, there was no intel on when (or if) Sig would be selling the barrel/tube parts individually.
If I had a timeline/expected pricing on those it would almost be a no-brainer, particularly as the K model was about $150 cheaper...

Any further out and I imagine you'll be feeling what your muzzle device is saying.

I'd personally just take it all the way off, but I don't have the operational experience to claim that's a good idea.

Are they Sig Ks or are they aftermarket mods. There are a mess of companies doing conversion jobs now.

I believe they're factory models direct from Sig, and are at the fixed price that Sig requires. Was told they just got these in within the last month...
ETA: Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure they're factory (but can confirm tomorrow). If you check out the pic I posted, you can see there's a difference in the length of the side rails. They both extend to the same length/position, but the K model side-rails are actually about an inch shorter in length...

Mine started out life (thanks Noah) as the pistol version with the folding Sig Arm Brace. Form 1 and added a collapsing stock. Sent the upper out to be cut down to K length and got it back yesterday. I am more than pleased. Super cool toy.

Did you notice any blowback (gas/particles/etc.) with the can on it?

Thanks
