I was never a huge fan but appreciated his talent-sure could play the guitar. Evidently viewed as quite the good guy in the music industry. RIP.

Way too young. 2016 is working its way to a horrible year.

He had some real talent, a big influence in pop music , but some of his stuff is just too darn hard to dance to [Hyper]. He was a bit whacked but from what I hear a decent guy. Thoughts to the family.

I'm sure the Inquirer and media are tromping over each other to get the scoop and we will hear more than we want to for many years.

I heard that it was complications from the flu. A good friend of mine in Black Forest went out the same way a few months ago.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder about this "flu", my wife's aunt was 65 with no other health issues, and passed from the flu last month.

RIP to an incredibly talented artist.
Too bad, I would have liked to have seen him, a couple of folks I know who saw him live said it was one of the best shows they had ever seen.
Many years ago I took a cute gal to see "Purple Rain" at Villa Italia.
It was our 1st date.
Musta worked, we got married 4 years later.

No disrespect intended. RIP.

I don't think Prince was ever accused of phoning anything in. Every time I've seen his performances (never live) he's always seemed to be genuine.

TAFKAP thing was kinda weird though.

I believe it was to avoid contract language that he had signed into when he was younger. I learned everything I've ever known about Prince today by listening to the radio.

I believe he became the artist formerly known as Prince to get out from under a contract to Sony.
RIP.

Yup I believe Sony owned the rights to all music published under "Prince". Changing his name was a loophole.

Saw him perform live at the Pepsi Center a few years ago. Even if you didn't like his music, you could appreciate his talent for giving the audience what they wanted. To be entertained. Don't think I'll ever see a show like his again.

Some speculation that he was taking Percocet and got the flu! Apparently the flu, basically a respiratory illness and taking a opioid can stop you from breathing. Dunno if its true...

To this day one of the best live shows I've ever seen was a Prince tribute band that was at the Boardwalk in Las Vegas and was free with a 2-drink minimum. I can only imagine how entertaining the real thing would have been in person. Dude was talented and his personal touches on music entertainment have helped shape decades of artists and how they see the medium. RIP Prince.

Something to think about- "Vanity" AKA Deniece Matthews died in February. It is well known that she always felt Prince was her true love.
Prince launched her musical career.
Maybe her death put him into a depression.

Well, but Prince had married another woman (one of his backup dancers) and had a child with her. The baby boy died after a week; they ended their marriage a while ago, but they were still very close.

According to the Sheriff, there was no sign of suicide or trauma.

Never was really a fan, and I never get/understand what seems to me as people's over-attachment to celebrities or musicians, but I will say he had some serious talent (perhaps even one of the greatest). I also somewhat liked/admired the fact that he never really left Minnesota, and always called it his home even when fame came to him. It's a rare bird that doesn't split from a place like that and head straight to LA or NYC, and was a huge supporter of local charities there.

RIP.

He actually changed his name to this symbol. Unable to interpret this, the media actually came up with the name "The artist formally known as Prince." Love him or hate him, he was one hell of a musician, known to have mastered over 30 instruments...RIP.

He used to rent out the entire movie theater in Minneapolis to bring his crew when he wanted to watch a new release. In turn, he invited the movie staff to his home on occasion for parties, including one manager who was a good friend of mine in college from Minnesota. I always thought that was cool.

She never actually saw him in his house, though. Always assumed he was upstairs orgying or something.

Edit: This being > 20 years ago already. :(
