View Full Version : How much less would you pay for 223 brass you knew was shot out of a machine gun (SAW)?
Trying to decide if I can justify shooting brass ammo out of my new m249 SAW if I sell it afterwards (vs. shooting steel case). I don't reload .223 today, and sell off most of my once-fired brass. But I know some guys prefer to avoid machinegun-fired cases. Is this still an issue? I've read the M60 used to have issues with expanded cases, etc. but not so much with .223?
If you take me along, I'll pick up the brass and pay $50 per k. Is this the winning answer?

I'll go $40 per K. Jamnac will be collecting my brass while he's there. Thanks............................................ Bro
Sounds like you need to invest in a 1050, dedicated to 5.56... Just sayin'
Let me know if you need help breaking it in. [Beer][MG][MG][Beer]

I think that the bigger issue would be the barrel erosion of the bi metal jacket vs the gilding metal jacket. What's a new barrel cost for one of those?
Also, I'll pay $1.50 per pound for LC and I don't care what it's shot out of.

Looks like barrel assemblies are about $150-200
It's crazy though - I had it out for the first time a week or two ago. I threw down a tarp, thinking that might help with the cases and links, but that baby threw brass in a huge arc, including half way across the parking lot. I took a picture because it was such a mess.
One plus for steel would be I could pick it up with a shop magnet on a stick...

I use a brass magnet, better known as a nut wizard to pickup brass.

Have a buddy with one of those I could try. But I'd probably have to pick up all the links first or they'd jam that thing up pretty bad I'd think.
I bought one of these at the advice of a couple MG owners:

When are we going shooting?
Soooooon. But I have to link up a pile more first. Goes pretty fast. LOL.

When I was shooting an M60 picking up brass was not something that I even claim close to thinking about. Pig Humpers Rule! :-)
