View Full Version : Is it still an 1911 if it's a 9mm?
Interesting product, looks kinda cool, and I love BCM and all. But when I read the email, my initial gut reaction was "that can't be a 1911 if it's 9mm".
Not sure if it's a question or just an observation, but I forgot whatever it else it was I came here to post in the first place, so you got this instead... LOL.

Its the rail that makes John Moses roll over in his grave.
Sadly my midget (little person) thumbs stop me from buying a 1911 (can't work work the slide lock), not the end of the world I guess.
Who cares. It's an obsolete design that's over a hundred years old.

38 Super is very much fun in a 1911.

Ok time to fess up. The only reason i picked up a 9mm 1911.... Magazine capacity. The thought of even 10 rounds of lethalality at my fingertips, .......[panic]
If i could score a single shot 9mm i'd be in. No matter how hard i look all i can find are Glocks. The thought of a plastic single shot, eeeewwwww
I got that email, too. The frame is a Wilson Combat. Not interested in it enough to find out who actually built it.

I'm still searching for just the right (read "affordable") Colt 70 series Combat Commander in 9mm. Perfectly acceptable - even desirable - in my opinion. Variety is the spice of life.

Who cares, .45 ACP has "Stopping Power" that's what matters to me!!!!
9mm will go through the intruder and though my walls and strike a bystander in their home or driving by in a car!
And that's the fact Jack......
Hit someone in the pinky with a .45 ACP and they're DRT. Hit someone through the heart with a 9mm and they feel winded for a few seconds. Why waste your time with a 9mm?
[Sarcasm2]
1911 is the platform IMHO. That's why I comsider the Sig p238&p938 as 1911 platforms just in 9mm or 380. Is an AR still an AR when it's in another caliber than 556?

bit of both I suppose
a 1911 in 9mm = a man after penis reduction surgery. Still a ____ but, less of one.... [Coffee]
Use your weak hand thumb on the slide lock. Now go buy a 1911.

Got a Combat Commander in .45, got a P226 in 9mm. Love shooting both, but the 9 costs a lot less to shoot.

Yes.
But ALL my 1911s are .45 ACP. Like they should be.[Coffee]

Or just sling-shot the slide and you're G2G on pretty much every pistol on the planet.
Is a Glock G20 in 10mm not a Glock?
Sadly my midget (little person) thumbs stop me from buying a 1911 (can't work work the slide lock), not the end of the world I guess.
Do you mean "lock" or release? You should be able to lock with even a stubby thumb. You should be releasing with your off hand by using an overhand slingshot or grab/push with strong hand.

I use my support hand to manipulate the slide lock or slingshot method. I wonder if he's referring to the thumb safety i.e.; high thumb over safety grip?

Thats why we went to the M9 and got rid of the .45. They Geneva Convention People were tired of hearing the excuse of "I was engaging the enemies canteens and web gear equipment and not the person." This would avoid war crimes.

Glocks are 36 years old, so they must not work. I mean, that's old... especially for a one trick pony.

Yes. Yes it was. Uber freakin' deadly. Strictly reserved for steely-eyed missile men. Men like Major Don West, who'd kill you with a wrench, but preferred the Lord's caliber.

You know, velour really is comfortable, but you don't want it near the campfire.
Anyway... 9mm is generally reserved for student council weenie pseudo intellectual Dr. Smith types.

I say as long as it fails during a competition, it's still a 1911.

John Browning built the 1911, saw that it was good, and rested. Then he built the hi-power, saw that it was good, and rested.
When asked what he though of a 9mm version of his 1911, and he said "but son, i've given you the hi-power"

I say as long as it fails during a competition, it's still a 1911.
Wrong!
He developed the first autoloading pistols that were both reliable and compact...
I read it in Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browning), so it must be true. [Coffee]
I use my support hand to manipulate the slide lock or slingshot method. I wonder if he's referring to the thumb safety i.e.; high thumb over safety grip? Most people that know better than me don't like them. But I love the extended slide releases. I've put them on 4 guns, just to shorten the reach. Thats the beauty of 1911. You gum them up any way you want.

One of my greatest moral dilemmas.
I felt dirty the first time I purchased a Glock, and did not tell anyone for a long time. I later found myself carrying it more often than my 1911s. I now own four Glocks.
After noticing I only have three 1911s and one Hi-Power, I had to go out and pick up a .50 BMG to put John Moses Browning back in the lead.
Perhaps a trip to Ogden will help save my soul.

You 1911 clingers....
The model A Ford was pretty bad ass back when it was new but technology has really made travel by automobile better and more efficient.
That's how I look at the 1911. A great design for it's time but why would I want to carry something that heavy that doesn't carry many rounds with a track record for less than stellar reliability?
Even JMB realized he could do better. That's why he made the Hi-power.

Ah, but he didn't! I understand he had a hand in part of it, but died before the HP design was actually finished.

I'm a little rusty on my history. I thought he finished the design but passed away before it was ever produced?

Sometimes it's difficult to tell sarcasm on here...and I know people who truly believe some of those comments
My comments weren't meant to be sarcastic. They were more just to get a reaction and maybe rile a few people up.
