View Full Version : Plane crash at Centennial?
Done anyone know if there was a small plane crash today at Centennial Airport? I was on 470 near 25 about 2pm and there was a small single engine aircraft about 500 ft over 470 struggling to stay up. Came really close to a few buildings on the south side of 470. It was able to get a bit of altitude to get back towards the airport, banked hard left and it looked like it dropped sharply. I lost sight soon after that.
That's scary. I saw stuff like that sometimes when I worked over there, but I don't know enough about planes to know when something is actually struggling to stay up or just having fun.
Nothing on the news. I work in the flight path for Centennial and I've seen some crazy stuff. Was hearing and seeing a B-17 coming in an out of there today.
I saw that too. Pretty cool bit of history.

I was driving south on Wadsworth this morning by Rocky Mountain airport. I was right by the runway when a P-51 coming in to land flew right over me.
That Merlin was spitting and popping as he idled it back to land.
Awesome sight and sound.
I think you could take a ride up in that B-17. Not sure if you had to pay for the ride but I imagine so.

Amazing plane. Just a ton of motor!
My wife works for Jeppesen and her office overlooks the runway and she didn't see anything.

500 bucks. Best money I ever spent, that was discounted though because I word at the FRONTIER they were showing it at. Got a ride in a P51 and a thunderbolt? I think, the one with two engines. Awesome job, pay sucked.
The B-17 Aluminum Overcast is in town this weekend at Centennial.
P-51? Oh hell yeah.....

I see your start up and raise you a whistle:

Man, what I would give for the opportunity to probably kill myself flying one of those at Max War Power (1760hp).

That "whistling" sound is one of the intake scoops or the open gun ports. Not all of them make that noise.

Whistling is cool, but how about howling? It sounds like a TIE Fighter

If I were a pilot, my top 3 aircraft to fly would be the P-51D, P-38 and F4U Corsair. I understand the Corsair also "howled" in a way that scared the bejeezus out of the Japanese.

It was the oil coolers at the kink of the wings.
I'd love to fly/own a P-38, a P-40 and/or a Hawker Hurricane.

My piloting wish list:
P51D, P47D, Mosquito, Hawker Hurricane, Seafury, finally Bearcat.
Yeah, P-47D should have been on my list, but I forgot. I'd prefer a razorback model :)
I'd also have a Supermarine Spitfire on my list.

Spitfire all the way. I flew in a modified Spitfire Mk Vb when I was a teenager. Best memory ever....

I was working on my roof today and a small plane flew overhead. There was a sputtering and the engine sound dropped and I figured I was watching a crash. Grabbed my phone to video but the engine came back. I heard the engine for the next 10 minutes, so I wonder if they set down in a field by Franktown.
