View Full Version : Question on Non-functioning, old, shotgun disposal?
How does one legally get rid of one of these? Old rusty double barrel...wouldn't shoot it with YOUR shoulder. Thought about throwing it a dumpster somewhere, but want to do the RIGHT thing.
Wait for a gun buyback. I got a pair of Bronco tickets for a starter pistol once...
I'll take it off your hands if it's a freebie, sounds like a good wallhanger.
Its pretty rough, but who knows, it might fit someones decor.
I would take it for decor.
I would love to give it away. Does that constitute a transfer that requires paperwork? Can I "throw it in the trash"?
Whose going to know you threw it away?

Only everyone on the internet, now.

I'm a balding old dude playing Farmville as a 14 year-old girl.
Go lean that shotgun up against a tree in the woods and enjoy seeing it on the news a year from now when some hiker finds it.

Nice try. I know you're not balding (noticeably), and you're not that old.
But I AM having a hard time discounting the 14 yog thing though.

At what point does it fit C&R status?

Theft alert system, Hang it on the wall inside the front door of the house.
If you come home and can see it's missing, turn around and get out of the house. Someone busted in and took it and other things.

If it's that old it probably doesn't even qualify as a firearm anymore......and I'd take it for a wall hanger too :p
Sounds like this is turning into an auction thread, instead of a "How can I" thread.

GROUP BUY ?
Give it away, OR since you seem nervous doing that. Throw it in the chop saw. Then dispose of real fast. Keep a chopped down SG laying around, who knows what trouble one might encounter.
I'm one of those people that believes no gun is ever to far gone to not still have a purpose in life. All guns are a form of art to me. If I ever found a gun that was absolutely in such bad shape that function was out of the question I would make something out of it. I would likely build a floor lamp out of an old long gun. But that's just me and it would go with the decor of one of the rooms in my house.
If you are afraid to give it away depending on the condition of the stock I might even pay you something for it, plus I have a C&R license.

Make a lamp out of it.

Anytime your looking to get rid of something give it to Skully [ROFL2]
LOL. To make sure our site admins stay happy, and since a couple of you guys live in my neck of the woods, I'll offer to transfer this for you for free if you want. You still pay the $6 to CBI though.
(You can always call ATF and drop it off too. If you're lucky, you can even invite them over - they love making house calls, LOL)

He have it in the trading post before he got his hands on it. [ROFL1]
I was just going to suggest making it into a lamp, but got beat to the punch.
Now, if I had an old shotty, I'd turn it into a propane powered cigar lighter.

Well, in the final analysis, this makes the most sense to me.

No. Don't encourage gun buybacks (hell the name even pisses me off ... they're not buying anything "back" ... more crap born of the thinking that government owns everything and we are all "distributed" our "pieces of the pie")

Yeah, I wouldn't have anything to do with it on principle alone...
Selling non-functional guns is exactly what that program deserves.

Send it to Numrich's. They'll send you a check for what they think it is worth and reimburse you for the cost to ship it to them (parcel post rates). I'm doing that with a Rem Model 7 260 Rem barrel I've been trying to sell here

Except that it doesn't hurt the program, it only justifies the programs existence and encourages them to keep doing them. Remember the goal of these things is not to get dangerous guns out of the hands of criminals, its to get poor people to volunteer to disarm themselves and prostrate themselves before the all mighty State and reinforce the notion that only The State should have arms.

The poor people who do the gun buy backs are the same ones who feed off the slough their democrat masters hand them. So zero fucks given for their disarming.
