Looking for information and insight on a left handed AR for the wife and daughter. Anyone have any suggestions for some quality? Thanks.

As a lefty it's gonna be tough. Any reason why they can't shoot a right handed one?

My very first AR was a left handed stag. Very good quality shooter. I since have bought all right handed guns. A couple reasons: parts compatibility, resale, with the shell deflector its not that bad when the casing whizzes in front of your face.

I'm a lefty, never notice the brass on my standard setup AR. About the only change I've made to mine was the ambi safety, super easy to fit.

Stag is the only company I know that makes a full lefty upper. I am lefty (hence my board name) and I have never had an issue with AR's. I actually prefer to use a standard AR over a lefty one. The only thing I do change is the charging handle to an ambi one.

My board name says it all. Great quality left uppers.

Doesn't a lefty upper require a lefty lower to function properly ?

I have just always adapted to a standard AR. by putting an ambi safety & charging handle on one. Never had a problem with a modern one with the brass bump.

The brass ejection. Even with the brass deflector they just asked to have a left handed one. So I wanted to do the research.

I've been shooting my Stag lefty for many years and I love it. It's seen a lot of rounds and a lot of 3-gun matches.

I'd recommend buying a backup BCG down the line just in case but I haven't had to change any of my lefty-specific parts yet. My other recommendation is to get an ambi charging handle.

For the lower get an ambi safety on there pretty quick. Down the line look into mag releases. Those are kinda pricey and not as crucial.

A PSA for those who may not know. A regular AR is fine for a lefty when you're just shooting in a straight line at the range. As soon as you start shooting faster or from odd positions they get annoying. Brass occasionally goes off its normal arc and the gas can be really irritating.

I am a lefty and have almost no issue with my right handed ar's. No problems in tactical or 3gun type games but I do run into issues the brass ejection when shooting off-hand for NRA XTC type stuff and for single loading in mid-range comps.

I got my first lefty this year for cmp/nra use and like it so far. I do not run anything else ambi on the lower except the safety. I like that I can pick up any rifle and run it rather then just a lefty...

i did did find a brass deflector on my right hand service rifle did make shooting a little less exciting since I know longer got the gas back in my right eye.

If it will make them happy, and keep them shooting, then go for it.

Personally, I find the ambi charging handles useless on a right handed upper with the forward assist. The FA gets in the way of accessing the CH.

I have only had an issue with gas in the face from my suppressed SBR, but that's a specialty gun.

I haven't had an issue with the brass, and it may just be a matter of getting used to it for them, or it could be an issue with the gun if it's managing to hit them with it.

I can attest to one thing without question, Stag Arms makes a killer NP3 treated BCG. I put one in my 300BLK SBR and it is so smooth it's incredible.65557

I have a Stag lefty and enjoy it but if you find one you need to know that many of the parts are not inter-changable with right handed AR's. Additionally, at least with my Stag, the dust cover flips UP, not down and if you look to replace it the only way it looks to be able to remove the pin is to remove the barrel first. I wasn't happy with that setup at all.

I have shot many right-handed AR's and the only one I've had issues with the brass ejection is a Colt SP1 which has a tiny nub to deflect brass - with that I typically get brass down my shirt.

good luck with your quest. Do anything you need to do to get/keep those ladies shooting.
