I have a Nikon D7000. Really nice camera and far exceeds my abilities as a photographer. Unfortunately, I can't afford good lenses for it. I have a couple of the kit lenses but they're very limited in capability. A friend, who's a fairly accomplished photographer, shoots exclusively with a Canon SH60 HS. I decided I'd give one of the new "superzoom" cameras a shot and decided on the Nikon P610. It was under $400 delivered from Amazon...less expensive than even a cheap lens for the D7000.
So, it arrived, I charged the battery, read just enough to get started and went outside. I saw the moon and snapped this with the lens fully zoomed. It's a 60x optical zoom and that can be doubled digitally. Haven't tried that yet. This was handheld at the equivalent of a 1440mm focal length. Obviously the vibration reduction works well.
I'm going to start carrying it with me at work in hopes of getting a good shot of one of the many eagles that nest in the area along the Clearwater River.

That is a cool shot.
That's better than most people can shoot with a $5000 camera and lens combo

Come on up here, they're all over the place. I'll see if i can dig up my 3mp [ROFL3] snap of a baby bald and it's mother circling the house.
That's pretty impressive.
No kidding!

I took this one about 30 mins later. There's more contrast with the darker sky.

I tried to take some bird photos from a distance today. They sucked...like most of the other pictures I usually take. Fuckin' camera. :(

Very nice! A talent I do not possess...
Shoulda tried that with the birds.
Without teeth, smiling tends to awkward for birds. I find most birds to be extremely self conscious.

I got banned the first 5 minutes on twitter.
Perhaps the handle babyiloveguns attracted too many hoplophobes?
I'll start a twitter account with the handle babyoliveguns.

Listen, the fact that no one has photoshopped a Moononite into either of those pictures yet proves that our community doesn't even deserve this thread.

Just stick some Googly eyes on it and call it good.

Literally just point, zoom and shoot. It was set on auto. All I had to do was find the moon in the viewfinder (I don't like using the small screen on the back for some reason). Any more complicated than that and I get lost.

^^ >> http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-COOLPIX-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B00U2W4JEY
83X Optical zoom, 166x Digital zoom, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, blah, blah, blah...and less than even a cheap lens for a DSLR.
That thing is just nuts. I don't even know what I'd do with 83x zoom, but I'd love to find out.
Hell even this little guy is only 4mp less than my DSLR, with more zoom than any lens I get under one, probably two thousand.

And smaller, and lighter, and cheaper...shit
