Don't do this. Don't give your gun to a third party for crying out loud.

And if you do have a permit, just walk into the Zoo quietly.

The bus driver was correct to deny the request considering the lack of a written letter from the teacher.

Just hold onto it. Jesus. No one ever needs to know. if you have a valid permit and you forgot it AND if someone finds out about it, take your ticket (if it even comes to that) and fight it in court. Until then, KEEP IT SECRET AND KEEP IT SAFE

I think they have signs.... Haven't been there since the late 90's though.....

There may be signs, I just remember last time I was there (2-3 months ago) I thought to myself "wow, I totally could have carried."

This is from an article about the Museum of Nature & Science now allowing concealed carry:

Other major cultural institutions, including the Denver Zoo and the Denver Art Museum, already allow permit holders to carry concealed weapons. - See more at: http://www.cpr.org/news/story/concealed-handguns-now-allowed-museum-nature-science#sthash.rkb3jiYz.dpuf

So according to that, and what I remember from my last visit to the Denver Zoo, you are allowed to carry concealed if you are a permit holder. He should have kept his mouth shut and his firearm concealed from that aspect. I'd be more concerned about having it on a school bus/public school property.

Guy is a dumbass. His dumb assery and poor judgement would make me question his fitness to teach/train/challenge my children.

Disagree. He just created a lesson plan that everyone involved will never, ever, forget. Those kinds of lasting lessons don't come easy.

This is a sad story. We actually had an educator carrying during a field trip when he/she saw a shitty little sign at the zoo. He/she panicked. So what? This individual was taking a very personal responsibility for the children in his or her care and then faltered at the moment that they saw the Denver Zoo's entry signage.

Sure, a lot of us would have 'carried on' without a second thought, but a lot of us don't deal with the overpowering bureaucracy and threats that our educators endure every single day.

The above comments are cute for us gun people. Truly cute. But we don't live and work in that middle zone between right and left that our teachers are expected to perform in.

We should be giving the teacher a high-five for looking after our kids and future the right way. Even if he/she made a bush-league mistake.

This individual carried a firearm on a field trip for all the right reasons and then buckled under pressure.

Kick some funds his or her way for legal defense, some more training and for having the intent to do the right thing.

Or, keep swinging your nuts and alienating people that don't know as much as you do.

A lot of this is true and a good point. Guys heart was in the right place, and is unfortunate that he made the same beginner mistake that many new gun owners make of second guessing themselves out of fear.

I know personally "a few" members who are "teachers" and have confidence they will not make such mistakes.

This guy gave his firearm to a third party. Sacrilegious in my opinion.

Comment about members was response to earlier comment about which of our members it might have been. I took it tongue in cheek and meant mine tongue in cheek.

Indeed. And a mistake that should have never been made.

However, we had an armed educator on the bus during the entire transit period. And that act should be championed... Because I believe that educator will be fired for possessing a firearm at any point in time during the field-trip.

There was a mistake made here. But it is a step in the right direction. Mainly because the educator said 'fuck ya'lls policy' and carried a weapon during the field-trip to protect themself and all of children in their care.

If this carrying of a firearm during a field trip would have been executed without incident, none of us would have ever known that such a thing is being done in defiance of school district precedents.

A mistake was made here, but we do have SOME people properly looking after our kids.

Help those people if you can. In whatever way that you can.

So are you implying that he should have been given a citation with a fine? In this case that would not have been appropriate since this is not an infraction, its a crime. Im sorry you feel that our criminal justice system is so flawed but maybe we could have just shot him on site for his crime. No revenue involved there right?

No, his comment was the correct observation that our court system has as its primary purpose the collection of revenue. Fourth or fifth down the list of priorities is the punishment of actual crime.

I am confused here, what is the crime that was committed? And what was the ticket for? An adult let another adult hold their firearm while they went to the zoo, am I missing something here? Is it that they did not conduct a background check or something? I thought you only had to do a background check when ownership changes like if you sold it. Do I need to do a background check next time I let my buddy shoot my rifle at the range?

Wait, what crime was committed to warrant a court date?

-the hiring of excessive numbers of city govt employees that draw a paycheck. This is about revenue, nothing else.

There will be court fees, a creative fine, and the opportunity for the person to appear before a guy in a black robe with a bunch of traffic offenders. Each and every one of them will be at least $200 lighter in the wallet as a result of their 'court date'.

Well we know it wasn't BigBear, cause the whole bamn dus would have been armed, chirrens included. And it would have made national news for bad-assery.

A few years ago I had a 7th grader draw a picture of "us" (me and the kids) on a band trip. It was the reading rainbow bus with wings, armor, and a tank turret on top with all the kids hanging out the window and me standing on the hood with rifles shooting "hippos" (hippies)... it was.... AMAZING. I have it in my files. I'll try to pull it out and post a pic on Monday.
