Like Audi, it's just another over priced Volkswagen

Loved the first commercial but Ferrari always captured my imagination as a youth and adult more so than Porsche.

I had many V Dubs in my day and agree. A high performance VW.
A good friend of mine had an Audi A4 and hated the thing. The climate migh have been a factor though. Parts were outrageously priced.

Classic 911s always get my attention. Newer stuff like the cayenne and the panamera really don't appeal to me.

Nice cars. But I'll take a 'Vette over any of 'em.

The 911 is heritage, but I much prefer the Carrera GT and the 918.

There are lots of substitutes for 911 Carerra 2/s 4/s, and 911T/s.
However ,it will be little difficult to find 911 GT3 and GT3 RS Substitute.

Meh. Never saw the allure of these fancypants cars. Where are you supposed to put your stuff?
Give me a classic American Muscle Car over any of these piddly little swoopy European things, any day.

<shrug> To each their own. I love the classic Mustang but was surprised at how cheap and crappy the interior of a buddy's Z06 Vette was. I am more interested in how it handles on the curves than power on the straightaway. I've also got a special place in my heart for Porsches because my Dad used to have a 356 and the way he and Mom got me to go to sleep as a baby was to load the cradle in the back half-seat and go for a drive. The 911 is the direct descendant of that old 356 so ...
If I ever come into some big money, I'm buying a red 911. Not sure why. I don't really have a thing for them. Just seems like they kind of say that the guy driving them has money and class.
Plus, what's not to like about 0-60 in under 3 seconds and a top speed right around 200mph?
My dad bought a '73 911 Targa for his 'mid-life crisis' back around 1983. My mom took it for her own. So he went out and bought a '77 911 S. What I learned from his experience is that if you want to own a Porsche 911 that's 5 or more years old, be prepared for the repair costs. They may be less finicky now, but back in the day, it wasn't too difficult to blow up an airbox.

Yes, I was afraid of Porsche repair costs for a long time. That stemmed from a dinner conversation long ago between my dad and a cousin who was (and is) a Porsche mechanic. They were talking about a job my cousin did, I think replacing the water pump, where the part alone was $900. Bear in mind, this was 35 years ago.
What I have found since I started perusing the boards last year are scads of Porsche owners whose maintenance costs consist of an annual or semi-annual oil change. I mentioned looking at an Audi to my cousin and he told me, "you know, that's going to be expensive to maintain" ... those are scary words coming from someone who makes his living maintaining European autos.
Anyway, I thought the commercials were pretty cool.

I think it's fair to assume that the three minute commercial with the little kid going to the dealer has a secure place on that directors reel.

I ran a Porsche and Audi service Dept for a few years, and was a factory trained Jaguar and Land Rover tech. Parts do tend to be much more expensive especially 20+ years ago than domestic or Japanese vehicles, but they are much better made generally speaking. The big thing is on all European car lines is you must maintain them or they will be a nightmare. If you maintain them then they usually will not have many problems. Use the proper fluids and don't cheap out. I have had half a dozen Audis and am looking for another one to replace my wife's car that has almost 300k on it. Just maintain them and don't let someone not trained on them work on them.
Meh. Pay tens of thousands for something that depreciates and sure, it can drive 160-180mph, but how often are you going to actually do that. Once, ever? Most people, never?
This depends on the opportunities where you live. When I lived in Oregon, my orthodontist took a European vacation. He went to Germany and bought a brand-new Euro-spec Porsche. He then spent time driving it all around Europe. Then he was able to ship it back to the US as a 'used' vehicle and avoid a ton in tariffs. He was also a member of the local Porsche club that had regular track days at Portland International Raceway. That seemed like a great idea to me!
Eh, can't haul shit to the range in a sports car, can't go off-road, can't haul groceries, getting in and out is a bitch - gimme a pickup anyday.
I finally bought 2 performance vehicles on year 2014, and never been happier.
I daily drive that thing everyday! (as weather allows).
Biggest of all, my toddler LOVES IT! :D

You haven't lived until you do 90 mph in a turbo Porsche on US1 in Fort Lauderdale at 6 AM Saturday morning hydroplaning on the sprinkler puddles! I used to detail cars...

Much rather have one of these early Porsches. That 88 was a killer, just no coax to protect ya against pedestrians.
I think I saw an ID/SN with [Porsche] GT3RS here... [Coffee]

:) Well, I dated a very obnoxious Italian who thought his Ferrari entitled him to a lot more than his abrasive personality allowed him, so I may have some transference in my general dislike of low-slung, swoopy-looking cars. And obnoxious Italians.
My baby brother would be lulled into naps with car rides; he's a terrible passenger as an adult, dropping right off to sleep instead of conducting his 'passenger duties' of navigator, conversationalist, and music-changer!

At least he probably made a killer spaghetti sauce that was his mother's secret recipe, right?

I definitely don't understand the concern for where to put "stuff" but I also imagine < 5% of owners have this as their only car.
I've been long wanting a 996, replace/upgrade the IMS, and have a cheap, fun little car. With a little one on the way, that hunt quickly shifted from trading an extra car for an old 911 to dumping my CTD for the Tacoma. Someday... :( someday likely when the warranty and maintenance package is out on the current ride.

He didn't even have that going for him! His friend had a restaurant, so we went there and he spent most of the mealtime talking with his buddy about other women.

My wife and a friend's wife used to drive all the kids back to Wisconsin for a few days every year to visit the in-laws.
They called during a return leg one year to inform us they would be 8 hours later than planned as they realized they missed their turn and were currently backtracking from Montana. As I recall, they were on I-90 westbound and just kept going. I'm certain my wife was co-pilot at the time.

It does not matter what you drive but I will say two things. No kid ever went to school and bragged about how many MPG's his dads car gets (unless it is a Tesla) and life is too short to drive boring cars.[Flower]
Speaking of kids.
One of our vehicle is vert, and my kid loves it. When the top is down at school, she gets all the attention from her friends.
"Wow, that is A____'s car!"
[Flower]
I love a good road trip.
I just drove back from Northern Virginia to Denver last Thursday, leaving Dulles about 6AM where I dropped my wife off for her flight home. I drove US 50 pretty much the whole way and pulled into my driveway about 1:30 PM on Friday. I was driving my Toyota Yaris with a 5 speed manual. Cruise control is nice when you have it, but my Yaris does not. This is an amazing country and we are so blessed to have so many good roads to take us just about anywhere a person could want to go.
It's not the car, it's the driver that makes the drive worth it.

I knew a kid in high school who a bragged about just that once. Lol
I just woke up from taking a nap on the side of the road on what could be consiidered the second leg of a road trip.
Also just realized that I haven't known which state I've been in for at least the last two hours.

Yeah, look where the kids are with the best cars in high school. #1) Prison #2) Asshole #3) Asshole #4) Prison #5) Total Asshole
I think it's better to embarrass the shit out of them than give them material to be a dick/braggart about. I want to drag a can under the car and put a smokebomb under the hood, wear some nerd glasses with a pocket protector and be loudly shouting the kid's name.
Rarely do the kids bragging about dads car or how much stuff they own turn into nice adults imho.
A little humility goes a long way.
