As a retired military veteran, I would like to see this new Alabama law duplicated in Colorado.

TL;DR - Military retirees concealed carry permit fees are waived.

Thoughts?

IMO there's a lot of things active, or former .mil, should not be charged for.

I could get on board with waiving associated fees for active and retired mil.

Is it just fees or is it a permit less system for mil? Any more info OP?

Yes there are.

like we should be paying to exercise our right anyway. i wonder if they charge a fee to get an ebt card?

Oh I don't disagree, I've been very vocal on here about my stance on constitutional carry, but if the state is going to stick it to you, at least a thank you to vets would be a nice gesture.

I don't see a reason to differentiate one group of citizens from another, but others may disagree.

As a military "retiree", I appreciate discounts but I don't really feel we need special treatment on this one. What I'd rather they do is just cut down on the size and intrusiveness of the state government. I'd gladly give up special discounts if they'd drop some of the special fees and taxes that are imposed universally.

I have plenty of respect for our veterans (particularly combat vets) but these kind of discounts and all these programs to give preference to vets for jobs all kinda smacks of identity politics and "some animals are more equal than others" to me.

Hurley842002, permits are still required, only the fees are waived.

Zundfolge sums ups my feelings pretty well. I do not believe in a special class of people. I would like to see this become a Colorado law, for personal reasons, but I also feel that no one should be required to pay a fee to exercise a Constitutionally protected right. My thoughts are; if we can take small bites, get this law added for Colorado, we can take the next bite and regain some of our lost freedoms.

I guess I still think back to what the Sheriff (Otero County) did for my brother. Brother went in using his last service quals for the "training" portion, and the Sheriff said "don't worry about the permit fees, thank you for your service". I don't know if the Sheriff covered the cost out of his own pocket (doubt it), or if this is something he did for all Veterans (my brother wasn't "buddies" with the sheriff). I certainly see both sides of the argument, and most service members both current and former don't want anything for their service, but I personally don't have a problem with the state (or county for that matter) saying thank you for your service. All of that said, I'm vehemently against the "coat tax" and would be tickled to see Constitutional carry.

No one should pay for a Constitutional Right, with that said

I"m in the minority here, but I do . . I also feel they deserve it .
Hell if the FSA can sit at home , with no accountability for anything they do..such as zero drug testing, have to work or lose benefits. Then fuck it, give a veteran more than those folks receive.

Were it not for our servicemen & woman. Over the course of history, that gave their time and sometimes life for our country. We might not be able to do so on public forums. Let alone own guns, our own homes, speak out in newspapers, at the Capitol, etc.

Here's the enlisted pay rate. Some make more, others less, than one in the private sector.

There should be lots of resources that vets can utilize after their service, but an individual law for each seems beyond tedious.

Until we dismantle the welfare state, hold those on it AND those who encourage it (hello .gov) accountable, it will never happen.

But i'm wandering way OT.
