Mrs BG and I spent part of the day at the Lewis & Clark State College viewing the "Pride and Propaganda" poster exhibit. It's an exhibit of a private collection of all sorts of patriotic posters from both world wars. Absolutely fascinating and I'll admit a few of the posters, with their explanation plaques beside them, put some lumps in my throat.

What struck me most, and what was so disheartening, is the difference between now and then in terms of how so many Americans view their country and what it stands for.

This exhibit has been touring the NW for a while, I guess. Don't know what future plans are but if you ever get the chance to see it I highly recommend it. It's not overly large (maybe a few hundred framed posters on display) and can be seen in an hour, maybe more depending on how in depth you want to get. I know it has little to do with Colorado but I wanted to put a bug out there in case someone read about it and had a chance to actually see it.

It was a really nice way to reflect on what Memorial Day is about.

The Givan’s private collection of original military posters began in the 1950s and represents each military service with an emphasis on the U.S. Marine Corps. The collection includes over 1,000 posters, 500 of which are conserved and linen mounted, while another 200 are framed. Subject matter of the collection includes recruiting, conservation efforts, productivity incentive, war bond initiatives, pure propaganda, and security information.

A search will allow you to view some of the wonderful pieces in this collection. They have a FB page, too, for those into that.
