View Full Version : Under cabinet ice maker install issues
So I bought an ice maker for my wife that makes the "Sonic" nugget ice. Really looking forward to it. Because I don't feel comfortable with cabinet work, I hired some professionals come out and do the install, and overall they seemed like good guys who mostly knew what they were doing.
However, it's sticking out quite a bit, and the more I'm looking at it, the more I think I need to get it fixed. They said the water lines stick straight out behind the unit and we have to be super careful about not kinking or otherwise messing with the lines to avoid leaks. But this seems excessive, right? It's flush mounted with the unit face, but the door sticks out quite a bit. Anybody have any experience with adjusting the water lines somehow? It's a Scotsman SCN60PA1SS if that helps...
I'm pretty sure all that white is supposed to be hidden inside the cabinet.
I was hoping to avoid pulling it out to mess with it myself but I'm not sure I'm going to be happy with it as it stands.

Yes, that's excessive. Where is the water hook up? Gravity drain or pump? Have put a few in and would have been shot if I left it that way.
Can't really tell what's going on but I would not consider that acceptable. Might need to relocate or just Re plumb the water line
The sink is immediately to the left of those drawers, so it's a short run. Has a built-in pump.

While it looks unacceptable to me. One has to consider how much room was needed for the door to open w/out issue?
Looked up the specs and that unit is 23" deep. If the water hook up is under sink cabinet there is sufficient room to move it to the back 1+" of dead space.

Haven't done any that weren't zero clearance, especially Scotsman, so that shouldn't be the issue.
That looks ugly, and a quick google image search showed this pic which looks like its flush mounted. I would suspect that is installed incorrectly.

If I did that job And my boss came and inspected after I was done I would need a new job. That is totally unexcetable, call the company back and have the supervisor come and see his guys handywork.
It'll shove back to where it's flush and looks nice, but I don't have a good way to see back there to determine if the lines are kinked if I do that (the individual cabinet walls are still in place. Maybe if I had a snake camera or something I could come in from the hole by the sink with. Of course the hole left where they cut out the existing cabinet looks pretty bad when the unit is pushed back that far. That may be part of reason they didn't want to do that as well, now that I'm looking at it.

Yeah the more I look at it I'm thinking I might need to do that. I hate to "call the boss" on anyone but I did ask them a couple times if there wasn't something they couldn't do about it because it didn't look right and they told me it had to be this way.

Sounds like they need to come back and make it right.
