You mean Cassius Clay, like or hate him he could fight. Clay and Howard Cosell made each other who they were.
Sheesh. I heard yesterday that he was in the hospital with a "minor respiratory issue".
Guess it might not have been so minor after all.

Eh, if you wanted to be called Long Duck Dong, I'd respect your wishes, I'll extend the same courtesy to Mr. Ali...

I remember him from a different time. Again not taking away from being a skilled fighter.

Oh I know, didn't mean to sound like an a$$.
Terrible disease and a tough way to go but he was a fighter to the end. He was a fine martial artist, much more than a skilled boxer. I saw most of his major bouts from the Cassius Clay era through his reformation. In the end Muhammad Ali earned respect.
Under any name he was a legend.

He was a great boxer who's contributions to the sport cannot be diminished, [cynical curmudgeon] but also a virulent racist who hated America and whites, so I don't really care if he's resting in peace or not.
But I guess it's the American way to ignore the bad about someone if they're good at sports or singing or acting (especially if he's a black Democrat who hates the right people).
He'd have gladly seen most of us here rounded up and put in camps.[/cynical curmudgeon]
People who achieve fame or infamy during their lives will always get more attention when they die than those who didn't. That's just the way it works.

I don't mind the more attention part ... its the adulation from people outside of the Nation of Islam and Black Lives Matters movement that annoys me.
As far as I'm concerned, George Foreman is 100 times the man that Ali was.

Float like a butterfly,
Sting like a bee,
It's time to say goodbye,
To Muhammad Ali...........
RIP
I remember growing up watching him fight. It was always hard for me to understand the whole rope-a-dope thing. It just seemed like every time an opponent was starting to get the best of him he would lay on the ropes and cover until he was rested and the ref would separate them. I always thought a lot of the fights could have went the other way if he was fighting instead of running, I mean floating. And he was just a little too arrogant outside the ring for my liking, but just my opinion, RIP.
