Was is Savannah Georgia this past week for business and my customer took me out for a night Pig Hunt using IR/NV with a friend of his that does pest control for farmers. Pigs are such a pest and tear up crops they treat them like P-Dogs or Jack Rabbits and let them lay. We hunted in peanut fields and it was amazing how much damage they do. they're walk down rows and eat every plant and group of a dozen or so will jack up 50 acres <> a night. The approach used is, as you roll up on the field you turn off the pick up lights, flip a toggle to turn off brake lights, interior lights and all buzzers / seat belt chimes are disabled. You put on NV to pull into the field, scan it with IR and them drive towards the pigs on 2 track roads, depending on wind determines how close you drive. AR's are fitted with NV, shoot off of sticks and most shoots were 50-75yds. Hunted from 11pm till 2am, killed 6 and had another 5 run off into the bush that were wounded. I asked about going into the bush after the wounded I was told that was not advisable. I've done a good amount of night hunting with lights but never NV or IR, I must say this pig hunt pegged my fun meter..... Pigs ranged from 300# down to 80# in size.
